IIT Madras, Hero MotoCorp join hands to offer MTech, PhD programmes for employees

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and Hero MotoCorp (HMCL) have signed an agreement to collaborate in research, education, and employee upskilling. The agreement aims to strengthen industry–academia partnership in the area of future mobility solutions.

As part of the agreement, HMCL will support doctoral scholarships for IIT Madras research scholars, provide industry projects for students, and sponsor specialised short-term programs for employee training. The institute will also offer Master of Technology (MTech) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes for HMCL employees.

The institute further states that the collaboration will cover areas such as electric vehicle development, battery cell technology, motor and controllers, and vehicle dynamics. Both parties also plan to explore joint research projects, technology transfer, and CSR initiatives.

IIT Madras on scholarships, industry exposure

As per the official press release, the agreement was signed in the presence of senior officials from Hero MotoCorp, including Executive Director, Acting CEO, and Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Vikram Kasbekar; Head of Global Product Planning, Anuj Dua; and Deputy Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), Jyoti Singh.

Other officials present included Divisional Head – Advanced Engineering and Technology, Ananda Reddy; Section Head – Innovation and Upcoming Mobility, Rajat Kapoor; and Lead – Academia Partnerships, Manish Singhal.

Speaking on the partnership, V Kamakoti, director of IIT Madras, said, “Our partnership with Hero MotoCorp is a step forward in this direction, and I am confident that the scholarships, industry exposure, and specialised courses under this strategic agreement will play a pivotal role in advancing mobility research and development in India.”

Further, Vikram Kasbekar, Executive Director, Acting CEO and CTO, Hero MotoCorp, lauded the partnership and said, “At Hero MotoCorp, we believe in this and are putting it into action. We are proud to partner with IIT Madras, a world-class institute in innovation. This collaboration supports Atmanirbhar Bharat — a self-reliant India.”
