Allahabad University closed today after students clash with guards over fee-hike, campus entry

Violence in Allahabad University: Case registered against 43 guards on the basis of a complaint by student leader Vivekanand Pathak, as per a report.
NEW DELHI: Allahabad University will remain closed today in wake of yesterday’s incident, wherein violence erupted between “unknown elements” and security guards, the university said. The protesters pelted stones and torched vehicles on campus.
“In view of the unfortunate incidents of violence and serious misconduct that has taken place today, wherein unknown elements broke open the locks of the University gates which resulted in violence between them and the guards.Stone pelting and torching of vehicles have led to a panic-stricken situation, work in University shall remain suspended tomorrow i.e 20 of December 2022,” registrar of University of Allahabad said.
Some reported that the violence broke out over the fee hike. While some news reports stated that the fight started after the guards allegedly stopped a former student leader from entering the campus. The former students' leader Vivekanand Pathak claimed that he was on his way to the bank inside the campus, as per a viral video on Twitter.

‘Case registered at Colonelganj Police Station in Prayagraj, against 43 guards on the basis of a complaint by student leader Vivekanand Pathak,” the ANI reported.
The video of the brawl between security guards and students went viral on social media. The argument between the guards over not permitting a former student leader to enter campus spiralled out of control. Prayagraj police commissioner Ramit Sharma told the reporters that following an argument, violence broke out in campus. Students started pelting stones and torched two vehicles. But, the situation has been brought under control.
