AMU says Vibha Sharma's National Teacher Award 2025 brings pride to the university

Vibha Sharma will receive a certificate of merit, a silver medal, and a cash prize of Rs 50,000 from President Droupadi Murmu on September 5.

A professor at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is among the 21 teachers chosen for the National Teacher Awards, 2025, according to a ministry of education announcement.

Vibha Sharma, a faculty member of the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, will receive the award from President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony scheduled to be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on September 5.

Congratulating Sharma, AMU vice-chancellor Naima Khatoon, said: “This honour reflects not only Prof. Vibha Sharma’s dedication and scholarship but also AMU’s commitment to nurturing educators who make a significant impact on higher education. Her recognition at the national level brings pride to the entire university.”

She further lauded Sharma's contributions in designing Massive Open Online Course (MOOCs) and SWAYAM courses and her widely acknowledged expertise in drama and theatre studies.

Registrar Mohammad Imran said: “Such distinctions motivate faculty across AMU to strive for greater achievements and contribute meaningfully to nation-building. Prof. Sharma has perhaps become the first in the university to receive this honour.”

The National Teacher Award is the highest recognition for educators in higher educational institutions and polytechnics in India. This year, 21 teachers have been selected from polytechnics, state universities and central higher education institutions for the national award instituted by the education ministry.

It carries a certificate of merit, a silver medal, and a cash prize of Rs 50,000, the release said.
