Students pursuing MBBS courses in Bihar government medical colleges will get a stipend of Rs 27,000 instead of the earlier Rs 20,000.
The stipend for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMG) interns has also been increased to Rs 27,000 per month.
Recently, the FMG interns of ESIC Medical College protested against the delay in disbursal of stipends for eight months. The Supreme Court in 2023 had ruled that the FMG interns should be paid a stipend equivalent to Indian medical graduates.
Careers360 has also extensively reported on the delay in stipend disbursement and student protests over the last few years.
The MBBS interns in Bihar government medical colleges have been protesting since 2022 demanding an increase in stipend from Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000. However, three years later, the state government has announced an increase to Rs 27,000.
“The revised stipend will be effective from the notified date, benefiting students and ensuring better healthcare services for patients,” the state government said.
