BITS Pilani confers degrees to over 1800 graduates at Pilani Convocation 2024

NEW DELHI: The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITS Pilani), recently hosted its annual convocation ceremony on campus and conferred degrees to 1,832 students across BE, MSc, ME, and PhD programmes. This year, 5,681 degrees have been awarded by the institute including all campuses, programmes, and WILP programmes, the BITS Pilani statement said.

The convocation ceremony was attended by Sanjay Mehrotra, the president and CEO of Micron Technology, and S Somanath, the chairman of ISRO, who were awarded degrees, emphasizing BITS Pilani’s strong ties to industry and academia.

As per the BITS Pilani statement, 3,893 women graduated this year in STEM programmes. The institute has secured a placement rate of 81% nationally, followed by 80% at the Pilani campus.

The top recruitments of the institute were done across IT at 42%, banking and finance at 18% and 16% respectively.

“The institute also reported a remarkable growth in PhD enrolment, with a CAGR of over 20% in the last five years, now standing at over 2050, out of which 42% are female scholars,” the BITS statement added.

Additionally, during the financial year 2023-24, the institute approved 72 research projects worth Rs 81.33 crore.

BITS Pilani alumni contributions

Among the attendees, 6 alumni members pledged $1 million each towards the $100 million BITS Pilani endowment fund which was officially launched during the ceremony.

This year’s alumni involvement extended beyond financial contributions, with Arya Kumar, the dean of the alumni division, leading an initiative to connect with alumni globally resulting in more than 150 alumni-led organizations becoming Practice School Stations for Internships, the BITS Pilani statement adds.

As per the BITS statement, alumni have been helping BITS with curriculum review, startup and career mentorship, guest lectures, supporting clubs and activities, and organizing cultural, sports, entrepreneurship, and technical festivals.
