BRABU student scores 257 out of 100, still declared ‘Not Promoted’ in PG results

Several errors have surfaced in the postgraduate third-semester results of the 2023–25 session at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU), Muzaffarpur. According to the Economic Times report, a student received 257 marks in a 100-mark paper. In the practical section, meant for 30 marks, the same student was given 225 marks. Despite this, the student was marked “not promoted”.

Nearly 9,000 students appeared for the exam, of whom around 8,000 were declared pass. Students from Hindi, English and science streams have reported discrepancies in their results. Results of more than 100 students have been marked as pending.

Controller of examinations Ram Kumar said pending results belong to departments that did not submit internal marks. He said the case of a student getting 257 out of 100 would be looked into. He added that the university is trying to ensure no result is left pending in future.

Students flag result entry errors

After the results were published, several students said they were affected by errors on the part of the university and affiliated colleges. Some students said they were marked failed by a margin of one or two marks, and when they raised objections, officials dismissed them citing unclear issues linked to a “head examiner.”

Ram Kumar acknowledged the error and said it occurred due to a mistake while entering data in the Excel sheet. “It came to our notice that some students received marks exceeding the total. Upon investigation, it was found that the error occurred during Excel sheet entries while preparing the results,” Ram Kumar said.
