Download NowNEW DELHI: The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2023 recorded an overall attendance of approximately 88 percent this year. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow conducted the MBA entrance exam on November 26 in three shifts.

CAT 2023 witnessed around 1% jump in attendance as compared to last year. As per the institute, around 3.28 lakh candidates registered for CAT exam 2023 while 2.88 lakh students wrote the exam. Last year, 2.22 lakh candidates appeared for the test while 2.56 lakh had registered.

The exam was conducted in three shifts – slot 1 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, slot 2 from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, and slot 3 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. “The duration of the test was 120 minutes (160 minutes for PWD candidates). The time allotted for each section was 40 minutes (53 minutes and 20 seconds for PWD candidates),” said IIML.

The CAT 2023 question paper included a total of 66 questions divided into three sections - Section I: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Section II: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Section III: Quantitative Ability (QA). Section 1 contained 24 questions, section 2 had 20, and section 3 had 22.
The test was held at 375 examination centres across 167 cities in India. According to student reactions and expert analysis , this year’s exam followed last year’s pattern and was moderate in terms of difficulty level.
CAT 2023 scores will be used by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other participating institutes to hold admissions to management programmes. IIM Lucknow is expected to declare the CAT 2023 result by the second week of January 2024.
