CBSE Class 10 English board exam 2025 easy but tricky; paper had competency-based questions

NEW DELHI: Around 4.2 million students appeared in CBSE Board exam 2025 held by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for Classes 10, 12. As per the exam analysis, teachers said that the CBSE Class 10 English paper was balanced and had competency-based questions as per the new exam pattern. CBSE Board Exams 2025 LIVE

The English teacher from KV Munirka said: "The paper was easy. The questions were from the syllabus. CBSE had informed that papers will be based on a new pattern of competency and this paper was also competency-based . Overall whatever we had prepared the students for, the questions came accordingly.”

The board conducted CBSE Class 10 English paper and Class 12 entrepreneurship paper today at 7,842 exam centres. As per the data shared by the board, a total of 24,12,072 students will be appearing for the CBSE Class 10 board exam and 17,88,165 for the CBSE Class 12 board exam 2025. As per the CBSE exam timings, both the papers were held for a duration of 3 hours from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm. Students expressed their excitement and nervousness before the exam commenced today.

“I found the paper to be much easier than expected. The passages in the first section - reading comprehension - were very simple and easy to understand. The grammar section was equally straightforward. There were some tricky questions in the literature section but I handled them well. In fact most of the questions were simpler than what I had practiced and saw in the previous year's papers,” Bhargavi Satam, student from Mumbai Public School Poonam Nagar said.

CBSE Class 10 English section-wise analysis

The CBSE Class 10 English question paper was well balanced, however, there were differences in the three sets, a teacher from Shiv Nadar School Faridabad said. "Set 1 was slightly more difficult than the other two, containing more critical thinking questions, particularly in Literature. The long answer questions in set 1 required more inference, while the other sets featured more straightforward questions. However, Diksha, a student from Shiv Nadar School Faridabad said that Set 1 was quite easy, suggesting that the students were well-prepared," the teacher said.

"The reading comprehension section was relatively easy, and the analytical paragraph questions mirrored those in the CBSE sample papers. The grammar questions ranged from easy to average difficulty," the senior educator said.

"The overall length of the paper was moderate, and all students managed to complete it. After the exam, the students appeared satisfied," Pragya Joseph, senior educator, and Meenakshi Sharma, HOD English, Shiv Nadar School Faridabad, said, adding that the "the paper was straightforward, with many of the questions being familiar from class practice".

CBSE Class 10 English question paper 2025

CBSE Class 10 English Communicative paper has 12 compulsory questions divided into four sections - reading skills, writing skills, grammar, literature textbook. Total marks for the Class 10 English paper is 80. The Class 10 English Language and Literature paper has 11 question papers divided into three sections - reading skills, grammar and creative writing skills, and literature textbook.
