CBSE OSM Evaluation Row: Class 12 revised marksheet sparks fresh debate, Vedant disputes board's explanation

Vedant Shrivastava, a Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 student, whose Physics answer-sheet mix up case flagged discrepancies in the CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, has received his re-evaluation results, with his overall score up by two marks.

There was an increase of one mark each in Mathematics and Computer Science in Vedant’s CBSE Class 12 marksheet after re-evaluation results, while his Physics marks remained unchanged, as per a post by Vedant on X.

“Hello @cbseindia29 the 9 marks increase in physics that you are talking about did not get increased through the process of re-evaluation , they are my true marks which you guys don't give me earlier because you exchanged my answer sheet , and 2 marks were increased 1 mark each in cs and maths,” Vedant wrote on his post.

Student vs CBSE OSM Evaluation System

The CBSE responded to Vedant’s claim and said: “The candidate in his social media post has claimed that only one each mark has increased in two subjects and no marks increased in Physics. However, it is factually incorrect and blatant lie.”

“How is this a blatant lie ,the 9 marks increase in physics does not happen after the opening of the re-evaluation portal and if the answer sheet of physics was not mine how the marks given on that answer sheet were my marks,” Vedant replied to CBSE.

In the case of the answer sheet exchange, there is not a single mark increase, Vedant added. CBSE , however, did not issue any separate justification on it.

Story behind the Vedant, CBSE re-evaluation row

Soon after the CBSE declared the Class 12 board exam results 2026 on May 13, Vedant alleged that his Physics answer script was not his own. Instead, he received another student’s answer sheet, which raised concerns over the CBSE OSM system and mechanism.

Later on, CBSE admitted the fault and provided Vedant with his actual Physics answer script. Though after the correction in the marksheet, his Physics marks increased from 65 to 74. However, Vedant opted for re-evaluation after claiming that he found other discrepancies in the OSM evaluation of his answer sheet.

Vedant also shared images of his Physics answer script on his social media post, where it got momentum with several users questioning the evaluation process after observing markings on the answer sheet that appeared different from what they expected under the digital OSM system.

The OSM system was introduced by CBSE for the first time during the 2026 Class 12 Board examinations, replacing traditional manual checking with digital evaluation of scanned answer sheets.
