Chandrababu Naidu launches Quantum-Secure Communications Test Bed at SRM University

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has launched India’s first Quantum-Secure Communications Test Bed at SRM University in Amravati. The project is aimed at strengthening secure communications, trusted digital infrastructure, and next-generation cyber defence systems, MSN reported.

The Test Bed has been developed through a collective collaboration of SRM University-AP, Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the department of telecommunications, and Amravati quantum valley , it said.

Officials, cited in the report, said that the test bed can serve as a platform for research, testing, and development of quantum communication hardware, photonic and optical systems, encryption technologies, and secure network infrastructure. The initiative is also expected to create opportunities for students , researchers, startups, and deep-tech innovators to work on emerging quantum technologies, it further added.

The launch comes weeks after the inauguration of Quantum Computing Reference Facilities in Amaravati , underlining the state government’s efforts to establish the city as a major technology and innovation hub, according to the report.

Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu said in the report: "Today is World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. It reminds us that secure communications, trusted digital infrastructure and cyber resilience are critical to the future of nations. Amaravati Quantum Valley is taking another important step towards building a world-class quantum ecosystem driven by innovation, research and indigenous technology development."

The new test bed will be used as a research and testing platform for quantum communication hardware, photonic and optical systems, encryption technologies, secure network infrastructure, and next-generation cyber defence solutions, the report added.

According to officials, the project emphasises the state’s commitment to Make in India technologies and building highly secure digital infrastructure, the report reads.

In addition, CM Naidu also stated that secure communications and cyber resilience are critical to the future of nations, framing the project as part of a broader national security strategy, it said.

“The Amaravati initiative aligns with the central government’s National Quantum Mission, launched in 2023 with an allocation of ₹6,000 crore to make India a leader in advanced quantum technologies,” the report added.
