Chhath Puja Holiday: Schools, offices to remain closed across Delhi and other states on October 27

The National Capital Territory of Delhi will observe a holiday on October 27, 2025, on account of Pratihar Shashthi, also known as Surya Shashthi or Chhath Puja. The holiday will apply to all government offices, schools, autonomous bodies, and public sector undertakings under the Delhi government.

The holiday was announced on Friday by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, acknowledging the cultural and spiritual significance of the festival in Delhi. The notification, issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), states that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has approved the holiday.

“Notification dated 25.10.2025 regarding declaration of Holiday on Monday, the 27th October, 202s in all Offices, Autonomous Bodies and Public Sector Undertakings under Government of NCT of Delhi on account of Pratihar Shashthi or Surya Shashthi (Chhat Puja) regarding,” the official notice said.

State-wise Chhath Puja holidays

Apart from Delhi, several other states will observe holidays for Chhath Puja in 2025. In Uttar Pradesh, the festival will be celebrated from October 26 to October 29, while Bihar will mark it from October 26 to October 28, with both states declaring these days as public holidays and schools remaining closed.

West Bengal and Rajasthan will observe Chhath Puja on October 27, 2025, with state governments also designating the day as a holiday for schools and government offices.

Chhath Puja is observed over four days, with main rituals including Nahay-Khay, Lohanda, Sandhya Arghya, and Usha Arghya. For students and schools, the October 27, 2025 holiday allows participation in local traditions and cultural practices associated with the festival. Educational institutions are instructed to adjust academic schedules to accommodate the Chhath Puja holiday in Delhi 2025.
