Sai credited Pradhan for implementing the National Education Policy, expanding higher and technical education, and placing national interest above personal position by stepping down amid the ongoing controversy over examination irregularities.

All 18 Delhi Metro stations in central Delhi reopened on Saturday after the CJP withdrew its protest following Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. The DMRC said normal entry and exit had resumed at all affected stations, which had remained closed for four days due to security arrangements around the Jantar Mantar protest over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and examination reforms.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers Association (JNUTA) on Saturday welcomed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, calling it a "victory for democracy" achieved through the nationwide student movement. However, the teachers' body said the resignation alone was not a structural solution and reiterated its demand for scrapping the National Testing Agency (NTA) and restoring institutional autonomy in admissions. JNUTA also condemned advisories issued by university vice-chancellors against participation in protests, sought the withdrawal of FIRs against protesters, and demanded accountability for alleged police action during the demonstrations.

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar on Saturday said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation did not reflect regret over the alleged student suicides linked to the NEET paper leak or promise action against police accused of using force on protesters. Claiming the resignation appeared voluntary and hinted at internal differences within the ruling establishment, Ambedkar also questioned the Centre over compensation for affected families and the centralisation of education. He said the VBA would continue to support the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which withdrew its agitation after the government accepted its demands, while Union Minister JP Nadda assured "honourable compensation" to the families of students who died by suicide following the NEET test cancellation.

The Centre is set to introduce amendments to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, proposing stricter punishments for paper leak offences. The draft bill increases fines to as much as Rs 10 crore, raises the minimum imprisonment to five years (and seven years for organised crimes), and proposes the creation of a Special Task Force (STF) to complete investigations within two months. It also calls for fast-track courts to dispose of paper leak cases swiftly. The proposed changes come in the wake of the NEET paper leak controversy and weeks of CJP-led protests demanding stronger action against exam malpractices.

As per ANI report, CJP's national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said, "All our demands have been accepted, so we request the protesters to withdraw immediately and return home peacefully. We will inform you of our future strategy or any other issues. But we request the protesters to withdraw immediately."

Buffalo Intellectual (Prof Ravikant) on his official X said, the government may introduce regulations on political content creators on Instagram and YouTube following the conclusion of the ongoing protests. In the post, he claimed that if the government could not "win the platform, they will choke it for everyone else."

On the Education Minister's resignation, Rahul Gandhi shares a speech on his official X. In the speech he said, "Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation is a huge step in rebuilding our education system. It's symbolic because he was the symbol, but it is still a big step and I want to congratulate every single student who came out on the streets and fought for democracy, fought for the future of this country and defended the constitution. I'm proud of you, well done."

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah termed Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation a victory for students, youth, democracy and the Constitution. In a post on X, he said the protests had rekindled hope in the country, while asserting that broader reforms in governance and the education sector remain necessary. He also credited Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition for supporting the movement.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju thanked Dharmendra Pradhan for his contribution to India's education sector following his resignation. The Delhi Police issued a traffic advisory asking commuters to avoid travelling towards the New Delhi district due to heavy crowds and severe traffic congestion. In a post on X, the police urged citizens to use alternate routes to avoid inconvenience and ensure smoother travel.

As per PTI report, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis could be considered for the Union Education Ministry following Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.

The AIDSO Karnataka State Committee welcomed Dharmendra's resignation, calling it a historic victory for the nationwide student movement. In a statement, state secretary Ajay Kamath said the struggle would continue until the National Testing Agency (NTA) is abolished, those responsible for the alleged paper leaks are punished and public education is protected.

The Kolkata unit of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) announced that it has called off all protest activities related to its earlier demand, saying the objective had been achieved. In a social media post, the group said it would now focus on raising its voice against issues such as sexual crimes, inflation and corruption, while continuing to advocate for better education, improved healthcare, stronger infrastructure and citizen-centric policies. It also thanked supporters for their participation in the movement.

Congress MP K C Venugopal described Union Education Minister Dharmendra's resignation as a victory for India's youth and for those who demanded accountability over the alleged NEET paper leak. Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal welcomed Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation but questioned the price paid by peaceful protesters during the agitation. In a post on X, he said the 28-day protest showcased the power of peaceful public movements and thanked Opposition leaders for extending moral and parliamentary support to the protesting students.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said Pradhan's resignation reflected the BJP's philosophy of "nation first, party next, self last." In a post on X, he said the decision demonstrated accountability and responsibility in public life, adding that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, democracy means listening to the people's voice. He also thanked Pradhan for his contributions during his tenure in public office.

According to PTI report , the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) welcomed Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, describing it as a victory for students, youth and democracy. AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal urged the government to take concrete steps to prevent future paper leaks, while MP Sanjay Singh said the youth-led movement had compelled the Centre to act. Senior leader Gopal Rai termed the resignation a triumph of the students' movement over arrogance.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor described the resignation as an acknowledgement that accountability in a democracy cannot be indefinitely avoided. In a post on X, he said the development followed weeks of peaceful protests by students, parents and citizens, while adding that accountability must now be followed by transparent reforms, institutional responsibility and measures to ensure that young people's futures are not jeopardised again.

On Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, students paid tribute to those who allegedly lost their lives in connection with the NEET examination controversy by reading out their names. During the event, Abhijeet Dipke said, "It's for these students whose lives Dharmendra Pradhan has taken."

Actor Prakash Raj welcomed Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, congratulating protesters and activist Sonam Wangchuk for standing by the youth. In a post on X, Raj wrote, "Congratulations... Dear Sonam Wangchuk sir and every single one who stood by the youth. You have proved that you can bring a regime down to its knees."

Cockroach Janta Party's Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das told ANI, "We've been called at 3:30 pm. We're not going anywhere until all our demands are met and they give them in writing. This is a huge victory."

NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation came only after sustained pressure from peaceful protesters, students, and the Opposition. Congratulating those who stood firm on the NEET issue, she asserted that the resignation should not mark the end of the movement and demanded accountability, comprehensive education reforms, and a detailed discussion on the NEET controversy in Parliament.

Education reformer Sonam Wangchuk in his latest X post, described the resignation as a “victory of democracy,” saying it reflected the power of peaceful, patient, and persistent public action. Congratulating citizens and the youth for raising their voices, he urged the focus to now shift “from accountability to reforms,” stressing the need for systemic changes in the education sector.

As per PTI report, congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the NEET paper leak controversy, demanding that he apologise to protesting students for the alleged police action against them. She accused the Prime Minister of failing to take responsibility, called for accountability within the government, and said true leadership would mean acting against those responsible for repeated exam paper leaks.

According to a PTI report, Telangana Congress president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud welcomed Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, calling it a victory for students. He said the resignation was the result of the sustained struggle led by Rahul Gandhi, the Congress, and other opposition parties over the NEET paper leak issue.

On the resignation of the Union Education Minister, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema told ANI, “Ever since the BJP  came to power in the country, exam papers have started being sold. They were leaked, and lakhs of children across the country took to the streets to protest against it... The downfall of the BJP has begun. From today, these same children who were protesting will give a befitting reply to the BJP whenever any state or national election comes."

On Dharmendra’s resignation, Tamil Nadu Minister CTR Nirmal Kumar told ANI, "This resignation alone is not the solution. Definitely, it is the result of the peaceful protest by the students... But this resignation alone is not the solution for what we are asking. All of us wanted to ban NEET, and we don't want NEET. Education should not be with the central premises; all the rights should be transferred to the state premises... With this resignation, they should not subsidise other records and banning NEET will be the long-term solution. It is a victory for students, and definitely we welcome it."

While announcing about his resignation, he wrote on X, "The situation that has arisen at Jantar Mantar and in the country, anti-national forces should not take advantage of this situation, the unity of the country should be maintained, the future of even a single student of India should not get entangled in legal complications, our children should spend their time in studies, focus on building a career, keeping this in mind, I have sent my resignation to the Honorable Prime Minister."

On the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury told ANI, “In the end, I can at least state that the government has been persuaded by reason. This might have been completed much sooner. This kind of unfortunate situation may have been prevented if it had been done much earlier. Lathi charges, tear gas and pellet guns might have all been prevented. Now, I believe that the administration was forced to submit Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation out of desperation, just as they were forced to submit their own minister's resignation. I have to commend the protesters for their tenacity and resolve. I must honour my leader, Rahul Gandhi, who has consistently supported them."

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress of ruining the future of students and youths while crediting PM Narendra Modi government for taking strict action against paper leaks and the 'copying mafia'. Addressing a public meeting in Fatehpur, he welcomed the Centre's proposed anti-paper leak Bill, saying those found guilty of leaking question papers would face a minimum of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 crore.

He alleged that the "copying mafia" was a legacy of the Congress and the SP and claimed those involved in the NEET paper leak had been arrested, while 37 National Testing Agency (NTA) officials had been dismissed. Adityanath also praised initiatives such as Startup India, Stand-Up India and the National Education Policy (NEP) , and claimed Uttar Pradesh had witnessed major improvements in infrastructure, connectivity and employment opportunities under the BJP government.

On the anti-paper leak Bill, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said, "That was one of our demands as well-that the punishment should be increased from three years to 10 years. But all these measures come into effect only after a paper leak has already taken place. What is being done to prevent paper leaks in the first place? He believes that someone with the right intent who is willing to take responsibility is needed.

Amid nationwide protest led by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from the post of Education Minister.

The government will hold third round of discussions with CJP delegation at 3:30 pm today. The discussions at the Constitution Club will focus on CJPs’ demands for reforms in the examination system and measures to prevent paper leaks.

Earlier, CJP leaders met Union Ministers J P Nadda and Dr Jitendra Singh met the CJP delegation on July 24.

Protests over the alleged NEET paper leak continue across the country, with demonstrations being held in several states, including Maharashtra and Bihar. In Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have announced a joint "Tiranga March" on July 26 in support of students and Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) supporters demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday condemned the attack on journalists during July 24 protest march over alleged NEET paper leak and assured the strictest action against those responsible under the recently passed Goonda Act. Speaking in the Assembly, he said around 70 people identified at the protest had no connection with the student agitation or the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). Adhikari alleged the miscreants tried to provoke police into using force but failed. Six FIRs have been registered, and five accused persons have been identified in connection with the violence.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) will hold a joint "Tiranga March" on July 26 in support of students and Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) supporters demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. MNS chief Raj Thackeray said the march will be completely non-political, with no party flags or slogans in support of any leader. Participants have been asked to raise only slogans condemning the government's actions and expressing solidarity with students. Raj Thackeray said the march aims to protest alleged NEET examination irregularities and show Maharashtra's support for students protesting across the country.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday said the political confrontation over NEET paper leak and demands for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation should not overshadow the need for comprehensive education reforms. In a post on X, she alleged that both the government and opposition had politicised the issue, while police action against protesters had worsened tensions. She also said the government's focus appeared to be on punitive action after paper leaks rather than preventing such incidents.

Claiming that he had heard that a section of the Union Cabinet is suggesting moving Pradhan to another ministry, Rahul Gandhi said any such move will be of no help. "The demand of the students is to sack Dharmendra Pradhan, and that is non-negotiable," he said. "There are three non-negotiable demands (of the students). Dharmendra Pradhan, who is corrupt, incompetent and misaligned, must be sacked," Gandhi told PTI.

Speaking to the media after meeting a group of protesting students at his residence, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said their demand for the ouster of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is non-negotiable. The Congress leader also said that he told the students that no amount of pressure by the Centre can force their removal from the protest site at Jantar Mantar. Terming the students the future of the country, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the past and the "past can never fight the future". "I told the students not to worry. No amount of strength can move them from there (Jantar Mantar). They can shut down (internet) and intimidate, but the students will not go away," Gandhi said. The remarks come amid raging protests in the capital led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demanding reforms in the examination system and the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak, among others.

Protesters have been asked to gather at the east-side gate of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib on Jai Singh Marg at 10:30 am on July 26 before marching to Jantar Mantar at 11 am on July 26. In a message shared ahead of the protest, the organisers urged parents, parent associations, professionals, businesspersons, government employees, armed forces personnel, politicians and social organisations to join the demonstration in support of students and education reforms.

The message also reiterated the demand for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation and called on people to support the cause, irrespective of caste, religion or political views.

Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed there were discussions within the government about some changes in ministry. He said, “There is some talk going on. These days, we receive information from within the government. There is discussion in PM Modi's Cabinet that the solution is to move Dharmendra Pradhan from the Education Ministry to some other ministry. This is not acceptable to the students of India…Dharmendra Pradhan must be sacked. Period."

Considering the ongoing protest, which is attracting thousands of participants, 17 metro stations in central Delhi will remain closed today. This is the fourth consecutive day that metro services have been disrupted. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the stations will remain closed from 7:30 am on Saturday until further instructions. However, interchange facilities will continue to be available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations.

The stations that will remain closed are Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium and Jhandewalan.

PTI reports that the Calcutta High Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to respond by July 28 to a 2026 NEET (UG) candidate's allegation that her answer sheet was not properly evaluated. Srija Mahanti, an aspiring MBBS course candidate, moved the high court praying for a direction to the NTA to re-evaluate her OMR answer sheet. Justice Amrita Sinha on Thursday directed the NTA to respond to the allegation made by the NEET (undergraduate) 2026 candidate by July 28. Annexing the final answer key published by the NTA and her answer sheet, Mahanti claimed that it was not evaluated properly. Mahanti claimed that after comparing her OMR answer sheet with the final answer key, she found she had received much lower marks than estimated. She also prayed for a direction to the NTA to permit her to participate in the counselling process for admission to undergraduate medical courses based on corrected marks and revised rank and merit position following re-evaluation.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi presented before the media a student protester who was allegedly shot with a pellet gun by security personnel during the July 20 protests. Gandhi demanded action against those who fired the shots and baton-charged students, and an apology to students from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "You are saying that protesters have been hit by pellet guns. I want to explain when pellet guns were fired. My brother was struck by a pellet gun when he was peacefully protesting with a tricolour in hand," Gandhi said with the injured protester. Lifting the youngster's T-shirt to show his injuries to the media, Gandhi said Sahil lost sight in one eye after being hit by pellets.

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and its Delhi unit on Friday held a symbolic "pind daan" ceremony at its office for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, calling it their "political death". Reiterating its demand for Pradhan's resignation over the alleged exam paper leaks, the IYC also condemned the police action against student protesters. It sought action against those accused of assaulting students and withdrawal of cases against protesters. The Congress youth wing alleged police barricaded its office and disrupted internet services in parts of New Delhi.

A group of 93 retired civil servants has sought an independent judicial inquiry into the July 20 police action against student protesters in Delhi, alleging excessive use of force, including pellet guns, electric batons and tear gas. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other authorities, the Constitutional Conduct Group demanded action against officers responsible, release of detained students, compensation for the injured, and dialogue on examination reforms. The signatories include former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and former Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said setting up fast-track courts for trial in paper leak cases would be a significant step towards ensuring justice to every hard-working student. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 23 said that the government has decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. In her first comment over the issue, Gupta said that protecting students' interests and ensuring a bright future for the youth are the highest priorities of the government. The statement comes amid protest held by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke reposted Aaditya Thackeray's message on X and responded with a brief note of gratitude, writing, "Thank you." Earlier, Thackeray had expressed support for Dipke and the ongoing youth-led protest, stating, "We stand with you, and for the youth of India!" while claiming that two parallel lanes near Shivaji Park were filled with supporters.

Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been diagnosed with typhoid but asserted that the movement against the alleged NEET paper leak would continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. In a video posted on X, Dipke thanked protesters across the country for conducting peaceful demonstrations and urged them to continue the agitation. He said he is currently undergoing treatment but remains committed to the campaign.

The Press Information Bureau's (PIB) Fact Check unit has flagged as fake an AI-generated deepfake video falsely depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi warning students against participating in the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in Delhi and threatening them with consequences.

In a post on X, the PIB said the manipulated video was being circulated by Pakistani propaganda accounts to mislead the public. It clarified that the Prime Minister made no such remarks. The original, unedited video features Modi announcing that the Union Cabinet would soon take stricter measures to tackle paper leaks.

The Samajwadi Party intensified its campaign over the alleged examination irregularities by putting up hoardings outside its Lucknow office featuring party chief Akhilesh Yadav and MP Dimple Yadav participating in the students' protest at Jantar Mantar. Meanwhile, a group of advocates marched in protest against the alleged police action on demonstrators in Delhi, while more than 300 people later joined a march in support of the NEET agitation. Separately, teacher recruitment aspirants staged a protest outside Uttar Pradesh Minister Sandeep Singh's residence, alleging that the state's affidavit on reservation before the Supreme Court contained manipulated facts and demanding that it be corrected and refiled.

Amid escalating protests across Bihar over the alleged NEET paper leak, the state government on Friday directed district administrations and police to deal with demonstrators with sensitivity while maintaining law and order. The instructions were issued during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit. PTI reports officials were asked to prevent the spread of rumours, engage with students through dialogue, and ensure that innocent protesters are not harassed. Police are also monitoring 117 identified suspects allegedly involved in disturbing public peace, while authorities have sought attendance records from coaching institutes as part of the ongoing surveillance.

CPI(ML) Liberation MLA Sandeep Saurav was arrested on Friday, two days after violence broke out during a protest over the alleged NEET paper leak in Patna. Protests in support of the ongoing agitation over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, particularly NEET, were held across Lucknow on Friday. Activist Sonam Wangchuk said he ended his 26-day hunger strike after the Centre gave written assurances, citing fears of an imminent crackdown on protesters and a desire to prevent violence. Recalling the September 24, 2025 firing incident in Ladakh, Wangchuk said it influenced his decision to call off the fast. In a YouTube video released late night, he rejected allegations that he had struck a deal with the government, asserting that his sole objective was to protect protesting students from violence and legal action. He also said he did not press for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation during the talks, as safeguarding the students remained his immediate priority. However, Wangchuk expressed confidence that Pradhan would eventually resign .

The CJP has announced that it will lodge FIR against every security personnel involved in the Jantar Mantar alleged brutality on students, and launched its website, theprotestrecord.com to gather evidence.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju earlier today urged the opposition to allow a debate in the Lok Sabha on the NEET paper leak issue, saying any excuse to avoid the discussion would send a wrong message to the country. However, the Congress and other opposition parties continued to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Making a statement in the House, Rijiju said the government had repeatedly requested opposition parties, including the Congress, to participate in a debate in Parliament. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurance that a law against paper leaks would be introduced and fast-track courts would be set up to handle such cases, he said the opposition should not impose any preconditions for the discussion.

The minister also noted that activist Sonam Wangchuk had ended his fast and urged the House to begin a debate on the issue. However, Opposition members continued to demand Pradhan's resignation and raised slogans of "Istifa Do", following which the proceedings were adjourned for the day.

Delhi Police has cancelled all routine leaves of its personnel with immediate effect in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the capital, police sources told PTI. The order issued by the police headquarters on Thursday has been circulated to the DCPs of all the districts, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and other senior officers, they said.

Following the same, no routine leave, including casual leave and earned leave, would be granted until further orders. However, genuine emergency leave would be considered after due verification by the competent authority. The order also imposed restrictions on police personnel attending training programmes or courses without prior approval from the commissioner of police. "In view of the prevailing law and order situation, no routine leaves, i.e., casual, earned leaves, etc., would be granted to the police personnel, including GOs, with immediate effect and until further orders.

Bollywood star Dia Mirza has shared a note on Instagram questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response to the ongoing student protests. In response to the video where PM Modi announced the setting up of fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks, Mirza posted, "Not one word of empathy for the parents who have lost their children, for the children who have died, for the incredible resilience of students demanding their rights, for Sonam ji and the students who were on a hunger strike for weeks." Maharashtra Opposition leaders criticised the alleged manhandling of a woman protester by a police officer during a demonstration in Mumbai over the NEET paper leak. They have demanded strict action against the cop after a video of the incident went viral. Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad alleged that students participating in the protests were being threatened and falsely implicated in cases. She shared a video on X, showing a policeman (not in uniform) grabbing and allegedly manhandling a woman demonstrator.

Rajya Sabha proceedings have been adjourned further till 2 pm as opposition parties continued to protest, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak and police action on students. As soon as proceedings resumed at 12 noon after the adjournment in the morning, Leader of Opposition in the Upper House Mallikarjun Kharge once again raised the demand of Pradhan's resignation. "The Education Minister should resign," Kharge said, while NDA MPs objected to the demand.

Congress leader Pawan Khera alleged that the Centre replaced Education Secretary Vineet Joshi to shield him from scrutiny and appointed Naresh Pal Gangwar despite allegations involving his family. In a post on X, Khera claimed that Gangwar's wife, mother and son collectively received over Rs 1.16 crore in subsidies from the National Horticulture Board while he served as Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries. He alleged the appointment reflected "deep-rooted corruption" in the government.

The Students' Federation of India (SFI) rejected Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of fast-track courts for paper leak cases, calling it an attempt to divert attention from the Centre's alleged failures. The student body argued that the examination crisis stems from systemic issues, including the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), rather than isolated criminal acts. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has issued an advisory asking students, faculty and other stakeholders to act responsibly and prioritise their personal safety. Citing the Supreme Court's directions on public demonstrations, the university urged members of its community to refrain from participating in or visiting gatherings at or around Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

The tweet posted by JNU on its official X handle reads, "Please exercise responsibility on social media. Violations may invite legal consequences under applicable laws as well as disciplinary action under the University’s code of conduct. You are also encouraged to uphold the values of academic responsibility and responsible citizenship."

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised Delhi University's advisory warning students against participating in protests at Jantar Mantar, accusing the institution of threatening students for exercising their democratic rights. In a post on X, Gandhi questioned the university's move and said those responsible would be held accountable "when the time comes."

The remarks come a day after DU cautioned students and faculty that participation in unlawful assemblies at Jantar Mantar could invite legal action.

CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar will continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. He claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's late-night video message reflected growing public pressure and said the "strictest action" would be Pradhan's removal. Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's video message on paper leaks, Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge told ANI that the Prime Minister should address the issue in Parliament rather than through a late-night video message. He said any statement made in Parliament would carry greater credibility and urged Modi to come to the House and make his remarks there so that members could hear them firsthand.

Over the past few days, celebrities including Naseeruddin Shah, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Shabana Azmi have voiced support for the students' movement, calling for accountability over paper leak and backing demands for a fair and transparent examination system.

Sharing a note on his Instagram handle on Thursday, the actor appealed to the authorities to engage with the concerns of the protesters and come out with a resolution, which ensures accountability. "Students are the future of our country. They have every right to ask questions when they feel the system has failed them. Their voices deserve to be heard, protected, and addressed with sincerity. I appeal to the authorities to engage with these concerns...The focus of the protest should remain on the issues affecting the students and the solutions they deserve," he wrote. Expressing hope ahead of the meeting, CJP spokesperson said he expects the government to approach the talks with an open mind and pay attention to the concerns raised by protesters.

The CJP had previously rejected the Centre's offer to meet at a minister's office or residence, stating that any dialogue should be held at a neutral venue. During the last round of discussions on July 20, CJP national spokespersons Das and Ashutosh Ranka met Union Health Minister J P Nadda at his residence. Following the meeting, the two leaders alleged they had been kept under "virtual detention" and said they would only participate in future discussions if they were held at a neutral location.

The metro station closures have disrupted daily travel for thousands of commuters, including office-goers, students and other passengers. On Wednesday (July 22) , the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) approached the Supreme Court, stating that the suspension of services at several stations had created significant difficulties for lawyers and litigants travelling to the apex court. The association urged the court to take note of the inconvenience caused by the continued restrictions.

Actor Salman Khan appealed to students to return home, saying their education and safety are the top priority. 17 Delhi Metro stations in central Delhi remained shut for the third consecutive day on Friday due to heightened security arrangements amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest near Jantar Mantar.

In an advisory, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said services at Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium and Jhandewalan stations will remain suspended from 7.30 am until further notice. However, interchange facilities will continue to be available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is set to hold its first public protest in Kolkata today after deciding to merge its planned march with a police-approved rally organised by Left-backed student groups.

CJP member Dedipya Ganguly said the party had sought permission from Kolkata Police for a march from College Square to Esplanade in support of Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike. However, Telegraph reports as permission had not been granted by Thursday night, the organisation decided to join the Left students' rally instead.

The protest will also demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a judicial inquiry into the alleged police action against protesters in Delhi, and compensation for families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the NEET paper leak controversy.

In a post on X, replying to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement on fast-track courts for paper leak cases, IIT Madras said the "root of trust" in any examination lies with the teachers who set the question papers and that their integrity and honesty are fundamental to the system. Referring to media reports on the NEET paper leak, the institute said the reports pointed to the alleged involvement of question paper setters in the scam. It also cited media reports about an alleged cyberattack targeting the CBSE revaluation portal, noting that the board successfully handled the attack without any disruption. Stating that such acts undermine students' futures, IIT Madras said swift justice was the only effective deterrent and welcomed the Prime Minister's decision to set up fast-track courts.

The Centre has replaced Education Secretary Vineet Joshi with Naresh Pal Gangwar amid nationwide protests over alleged exam paper leaks. According to an official notification, Joshi, who had served as Secretary in the Department of Higher Education since January 2025, has been transferred to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. The reshuffle, which included 13 appointments and four in-situ upgrades, also saw TK Anil Kumar appointed Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said whatever eyewash the PM proposes, the first steps to any resolution are clear -- "sack Mantri Pradhan; punish those who beat them; apologise". "The desperate and hassled-looking Pradhan Mantri finally broke his two-month-long silence late last night via a video message to speak on paper leaks," Ramesh said on X.

Responding to activist Sonam Wangchuk ending his hunger strike, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said the Cabinet's decisions had no bearing on the party's stand, asserting that its demands remained unchanged. He said the protest would continue until those demands were met. Das also welcomed the government's decision to hold Thursday's talks at a neutral venue, saying the Constitution Club of India had been chosen for the discussions. "We're very happy that the government has accepted our request for a neutral venue," he said.

About an hour after ending his 26-day hunger strike, activist Sonam Wangchuk released a video titled "End of Hunger... Beginning of Accountability." He said he ended the fast after receiving assurances from the government and MPs across political parties that the issue of accountability in the examination system would be discussed in Parliament. Wangchuk also said the government assured compensation for the families of students who died by suicide following the recent NEET examination paper leak and that no cases would be registered against students and youth who participated in peaceful protests.

Delhi University (DU) on July 23 urged climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his hunger strike and welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to establish fast-track courts for the speedy trial of paper leak cases. However, DU's statements drew criticism from sections of teachers and students, who questioned educational institutions taking a public stand on a politically sensitive issue.  Separately, DU advised its students against participating in unlawful demonstrations at the CJP protest site.

The Bihar Assembly was adjourned till 2 pm on July 3 shortly after proceedings began as ruling NDA and Opposition members clashed over the violent student protests in Patna a day earlier. NDA legislators alleged that "goons, not students" were behind the demonstrations, while the Opposition accused the ruling alliance of intimidating MLAs inside the House. Security was tightened around the Vidhan Sabha after protesters demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation targeted BJP legislators outside the Assembly. Similar scenes unfolded in the Legislative Council, where proceedings were also adjourned amid protests.

The nationwide protest call came as the agitation at Jantar Mantar entered a new phase amid heightened security in the national capital, continued restrictions around the protest site, and intensifying political attacks over the July 20 police action. Heavy security remained in place at the venue, while traffic disruptions persisted across large parts of central Delhi for the second consecutive day.
