Defence Ministry approves 86 Sainik Schools under public-private partnership model
The Sainik Schools Society will accept proposals for setting up new Sainik Schools in the fourth round of applications from May 15 to June 14, 2025. Eligible NGOs, private schools and state government schools can apply at sainikschoolsociety.in.
The Ministry of Defence has approved 86 new Sainik Schools under the Government of India’s initiative to set up 100 such institutions across the country in the public-private partnership (PPP) mode. The plan is being implemented by the Sainik Schools Society and aims to involve NGOs, private entities and state governments.
According to the ministry, the selection process has so far been conducted in three rounds. However, it was noted that some states, including the one addressed in the official communication, either did not submit applications or their proposals did not qualify.
The fourth round of applications for setting up new Sainik Schools will open from May 15 to June 14, 2025. Eligible NGOs, private schools and state government schools have been urged to submit proposals online through the Sainik Schools Society website at sainikschoolsociety.in.
States flagged for non-qualification
“I am delighted to convey that as of now, 86 New Sainik Schools have been approved by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, in three rounds for inviting applications for the opening of New Sainik Schools under Public -Private Partnership mode. However, it has been observed that some of the states, including your state, either had not applied for or applied but none of their applications were found fit by the Approval Committee,” the official circular said.
The new schools will begin from Class 6 and follow the academic and administrative framework of existing Sainik Schools. The curriculum will also include value-based education with emphasis on patriotism and Indian cultural traditions.
Recently, the Maharashtra government set up a seven-member committee to review 38 sainiki schools that receive government aid but are privately managed. Headed by the joint director of the state board’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, the panel will examine the revised sainiki schools policy introduced in October 2024 and suggest measures to improve their functioning.
