The Staff Association of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi, has decided to observe a two-day strike and dharna on October 30 and 31, 2025, from 10 am to 2 pm. The decision was taken during the General Body Meeting (GBM) held on October 29, 2025. Members will also attend the Staff Council meeting as scheduled on October 31.

Recently, several teachers’ organisations of Delhi University (DU) had written to the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA), demanding that a General Body Meeting be convened to discuss the alleged assault on Bhim Rao Ambedkar College teachers on October 16. The groups, including CTF, DTF, DTI, INTEC (I), RSM and SSM, termed the incident an attack on the dignity of teachers and criticised the lack of disciplinary action against the accused DUSU office bearers.

The Association has now raised several demands, including the immediate furnishing of a copy of the FIR to Professor Sujit Kumar and a request for the fact-finding committee constituted by the Governing Body to seek details of incidents that took place on October 15 and 16, 2025. It has also urged the DUTA Executive to convene a meeting at the earliest.

For coordination of the dharna and action plan, the Association has named the following members: Chitra Rani, RP Dwivedi, Sangeeta Dhaor, Rajesh Upadhyay, Atul Pratap Singh, Aarti Dhingra, Ravindra Singh, and Malini Priya.

Teachers seek prompt action

The demands raised in the earlier Association meeting held on October 22, 2025, will also be included in the list of ongoing issues. The official press release states that the association will hold another GBM on the upcoming Monday to review the action plan. DUTA activists and staff association members from other Delhi University colleges have been invited to take part in the programme.

“Association has decided to hold GBM on upcoming Monday to review the Action plan. DUTA Activist and Members of The Staff Association of different College of the University of Delhi are invited to participate in our action programme,” the official press release said.

The incident, which reportedly took place inside the Principal’s office in the presence of police personnel, allegedly involved DUSU office bearers, including Joint Secretary Deepika Jha. The organisations termed the attack an assault on the dignity of teachers and the academic environment of the university, expressing concern over the lack of disciplinary action so far.
