The Delhi University (DU) has announced the final schedule for its Undergraduate (UG) exams 2026, starting from May 16 and concluding on June 14. The university will also conduct some of its papers on Sundays which has attracted criticism from students and teachers, PTI reported.

According to the DU administration, some of the UG exam 2026 papers were scheduled on Sundays to ensure that senior students, including the batch of eight-semester or 4th year students under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 could graduate earlier and apply for jobs or future studies.

Earlier, the Delhi University UG exams 2026 was supposed to be held from May 16 to June 19. However, the administration has compressed the UG exam window for sixth and eighth semester students.

As per the revised schedule, the UG exams will be held on alternate days and utilising Sundays. The university aims to conclude these critical finals within a 14-day period starting May 16, rather than dragging the process into late June, PTI report said.

Recently, the DU administration announced plans to allow undergraduate students to spend a semester at a foreign institution of higher education while still earning a DU degree.

First ever DU UG exams 2026 for 8th semester students

“We had to reconsider the dates as semester six and semester eight students may have to appear for other examinations, interviews, or job opportunities,” DU Controller of Examinations Gurpreet Singh Tuteja told PTI.

The shift comes in response to confusion over previous drafts of the date sheet. Under the initial plan, exams were slated to run from May 16 through June 19. The new arrangement ensures all even-semester exams, including those for second and fourth-semester students, wrap up by June 14, the report added.

The 2026 exam cycle marks a historic milestone for the university as it conducts its first-ever eighth-semester examinations. This follows the 2020 introduction of the four-year undergraduate program under the NEP framework, it said.

The report further added that as per the officials, the revised DU UG exam 2026 schedule will accommodate seniors who may be carrying a backlog of papers from previous years.

However, Tuteja told PTI that these adjustments apply strictly to students enrolled under the NEP. Students appearing for exams under the older Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Learning Outcomes-based Curriculum Framework (LOCF) will follow their original schedules.
