NEW DELHI: The ministry of minority affairs has approved Delhi University’s proposal for establishing the Centre for Advanced studies in Buddhist Studies. The centre will be constructed on the university campus at an estimated cost of approx Rs 35 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) and “Buddhist Development Plan” (BDP).
The centre has been set up following the increasing demand and need for reviving the Buddhist studies language. The centre will facilitate collaboration between the university and the ministry to enhance educational opportunities for minority communities in the country.. Under the PMJVK, the DU will be supported for establishing and strengthening of the infrastructure for undertaking undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD and research programmes.
The DU will collaborate with the subject matter expertise and develop curriculum guidelines and course materials for all required courses including certificate courses, diploma courses, and PhD programmes in Buddhist studies. The curriculum will be tailored to meet the needs and interests of minority students.

The university will organise training programmes and workshops for faculty members involved in teaching Buddhist studies courses to enhance their pedagogical skills and subject knowledge. The DU faculty members and students will collaborate with subject matter expertise on research projects related to Buddhist studies. The centre will encourage interdisciplinary research that contributes to the understanding and preservation of Buddhist culture and language.
The empowered committee of PMJVK would examine the detailed cost estimates from the University before funds are released for establishment of the said centre.
