The University of Delhi will open the registrations today for the DU on-the-spot mop-up admission round 2025 for undergraduate (UG) courses based on Class 12 marks. DU teachers, however, have criticised the move as evidence of the failure of the CUET-based admission system.

The university conducted DU UG admission for the academic year 2025 on the basis of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores. However, the DU on-the-spot round will be solely based on Class 12 marks or equivalent; a criteria that was followed before adopting CUET.

This round is being held to fill all vacant seats in DU colleges after the mop-up round 1. As per the schedule, the application window will open at 5 pm on September 17, and will remain available till 11.59 pm on September 19.

Candidates who have already registered will have to submit their willingness to participate in the round during the registration period. However, those who have not registered on CSAS UG portal, ugadmission.uod.ac.in, will have to submit their personal and academic details along with the non-refundable fee of Rs 1,000, in addition to the registration fee.

DU UG spot admission and allocation will begin in physical mode on September 23. “No representative on behalf of the candidate will be allowed under any circumstances,” it clarified.

Total failure of CUET, say DU teachers

Delhi University teachers have been blaming CUET-adoption as the major reason for continuing delay in the academic year for the past three-four years. In this regard, the DU faculty have criticised the university’s decision to adopt CUET for admissions as a total “failure”.

Abha Dev Habib, secretary, Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) said: “To fill vacant seats in DU colleges, it is now the "ON-THE-SPOT MOP-UP" round of admissions based on Class XII marks. The names of the admission rounds cannot become more weird.”

“A premier University, which was able to complete its admissions on time for over hundred years, has fallen prey to faulty centralised CUET-based admission policy. One can only imagine the fate of other CUs (central universities). There is a systematic attack on public funded universities, their academic processes, and structures” Habib said.

Mithuraaj Dhusiya, elected member of the Executive Council, University of Delhi, said: "The latest directive from DU regarding UG On-the-Spot Mop-Up admissions shows total failure of CUET-CSAS admission process in DU.”

“Almost half of the semester has gone by and yet many colleges are still not able to fill up their seats. Now the situation is such that colleges have to assemble in the Multi-purpose hall of DU - akin to setting up stalls for customers - in order to attract students to their colleges and courses. It is a very pitiable situation for a premier University like DU."
