The Ministry of Education (MoE) will publish the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2025 today, September 4. The union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, will announce the ranking for colleges and universities covering 16 categories such as law, medical, engineering, dental, management, and others. NIRF Ranking 2025 LIVE updates

The NIRF ranking framework was launched in September 2015 to assess the ranks of higher education institutions (HEIs) across the country based on a methodology adopted by the core committee.

Last year, in NIRF ranking 2024, namely, new parameters and methodologies for ranking institutions for ‘Innovation,’ as well as for two additional categories, namely, ‘Open Universities, and ‘State Public Universities,’ were introduced.

The ministry introduced parameters, such as sustainable development goals and indicators of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), including the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), adoption of regional languages, and multiple entry and exit options.

Why were the NIRF Rankings 2025 delayed?

The NIRF India rankings 2025 were delayed this year due to an interim stay imposed by the Madras High Court. The stay came in response to a petition questioning the transparency of the ranking process and highlighted the discrepancies in the data submitted by colleges.

What are the parameters of the NIRF ranking 2025?

NIRF Rankings 2025 will be mainly based on six existing parameters. Each of the parameters is further divided into sub-parameters. The NIRF ranking 2025 parameters will include:

  • Perception
  • Graduation Outcomes
  • Outreach and Inclusivity
  • Teaching, Learning, and Resources
  • Research and Professional Practice

As per NIRF 2024 data, a total of 10,885 applications were received from universities and colleges, of which 1,633 were from North, 4,355 from South, 1,511 from East, and 3,346 from West. Last year, under the overall and NIRF engineering rank, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras was ranked the best university in the country.
