Assam school education department issued notice asking schools to align age to 6+ during new admissions in 2024-25 academic session.

NEW DELHI: The Assam government has asked all educational institutions to ensure admission to Class 1 at 6+ years of age for the academic session 2024-25. The state school education department asked to strictly follow the alignment of age during the new admissions in schools the upcoming year.
“In pursuance of National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 and Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, the Govt. in the Department of School Education hereby issues instructions to all Educational Institutions in the State of Assam, to ensure that the age of admission to Grade -1(One)is 6+ (Six plus),” said the department of school education in an official order.
“During the new admissions for the academic session ,2024-25 , the compliance of alignment of age is to be strictly followed,” it added.
In February, the ministry of education had asked all states and union territories to align the age of admission as per the NEP and RTE Act and ensure that students above the age of 6 years are admitted to Class 1.
“The session 2024-25 is soon to begin when new admissions will take place. It is expected that the age in your state/UT has now been aligned to 6+ for admission to grade-I, accordingly,” said Archana Sharma Awasthi, joint secretary of the department of school education and literacy, education ministry in a letter to the states and UTs.
