The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) continues to record lower pass rate indicating challenges for foreign-graduates seeking eligibility to practice medicine in India. The FMGE June 2025 pass percentage stood at 18.61% - a steep drop of 11 percentage points compared to the previous year.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) conducted the screening test on July 26 for MBBS graduates who completed the courses from a foreign university. Qualifying the test is mandatory for Indian students who graduated from a medical university abroad to register and practice in India.

As per the FMGE June 2025 results, a total of 37,207 registered for the screening test. Of which, 36,034 candidates appeared and only 6,707 successfully qualified. The failure rate stood at 81.39%, far higher than the previous year. Around 29,327 failed to qualify the exam, losing their chance to practice medicine in India.

However, such candidates will be allowed to appear in the subsequent sessions as the NBEMS conducts the exam twice in a year. Like previous years, around 3% or 1,168 candidates were marked absent.

To qualify the test, candidates will have to obtain at least 150 marks out of 300, half of the total marks.
