NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) will be conducting the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2025) from February 1 to 16 for admission into various undergraduate (UG) programmes in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commence, arts, and humanities.

The GATE score will be used for offering admission at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru (IISc). The marks obtained in the national-level will also be used for recruitment of engineers for executive positions in various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Corporation Limited (IOCL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) are some of the organisations which will use the GATE score for shortlisting candidates for its vacant posts.
GATE 2025 will have a total of 30 test papers comprising full papers and sectional papers. Every test paper has 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. General Aptitude (GA) section will have 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks which will assess candidates language and analytical skills.
“In test papers AE, AG, BM, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, ES, GE, IN, ME, MN, MT, NM, PE, PI and TF, the General Aptitude section will carry 15 marks and the remaining 85 marks are devoted to the subject component, out of which engineering mathematics will carry 13 marks,” IIT Roorkee said.
IIT Roorkee will be conducting the exam in multiple sessions. The raw marks obtained by candidates in different sessions will be converted to normalised marks for that particular subject. Subsequently, the raw marks for single session test papers or normalized marks of multiple sessions will be used for computing the GATE score.
There are two types of GATE cut-offs - qualifying and admission. GATE qualifying cut-off means the minimum marks required for clearing the entrance exam and GATE admission cut-off are published by the respective participating institutes, which sets a minimum mark criteria to get admission.

This will also help candidates to set a target and increase the chance of getting admission in top IITs, NITs, IISc.
