The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) has published the information brochure of the Graduate Aptitude Test In Engineering (GATE 2026) ahead of the registration process. Candidates seeking admission to master's, doctoral programmes in engineering, technology, science, architecture, humanities will be able to apply through the official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in, from August 25.

The GATE 2026 official website along with the exam date was announced on August 5. As per the schedule announced, the IIT GATE exam 2026 will be held on February 7 and 8 and February 14 and 15. The last date to register for GATE 2026 is September 25.
This year, the institute has added a new sectional test paper of Energy Science in engineering sciences (XE) paper. However, the total number of test papers remains at 30. The GATE 2026 exam will be conducted as a computer-based test (CBT) in two shifts – forenoon session from 9:30 am to 12.30 pm and afternoon session from 2:30 pm to 5. 30 pm.
GATE 2026 application fees
The entire process of filling up the GATE application form , payment of fees, and uploading of certificates and documents will be in online mode. The GATE 2026 registration fees vary for different categories.

The GATE application fees are increased by Rs 500 for an extended period. Meaning, candidates will be allowed to register between August 25 to September 25 – the regular period – without paying any additional charges. However, those who miss this deadline will be allowed to submit their application form by paying an additional late fee of Rs 500.
The last date to register under the extended period is October 6.
