Business goes filmy as IIM Calcutta, SRFTI join hands for research, training, academics

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta and Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) signed an agreement for academics and research. In a first-ever collaboration, the institutes aim to develop programmes amalgamating business strategy with creative practice.

Signed in the presence of IIM Calcutta director Alok Kumar Rai and SRFTI vice-chancellor Samiran Datta, the agreement marks the first-ever collaboration between a “premier business school and a leading institute of media excellence in India, creating a pioneering framework for academic, research, and professional cooperation.”

Through this partnership, the institutes seek to bring together management principles and creative disciplines to gain new perspectives in learning, leadership, and innovation.

“By combining IIM Calcutta’s strengths in management education, consulting, and capacity building with SRFTI’s excellence in film, media, and storytelling, the partnership aims to develop impactful programmes that bridge business strategy with creative practice,” said the management institute in an official statement.

Under this tie-up, both institutions will undertake joint research, teaching, and consultancy initiatives, along with capacity-building and specialised training programmes that promote cross-disciplinary learning. The partnership will also facilitate student and faculty exchanges and collaborative projects, bringing together logical reasoning and creative imagination.

The institutes said that they aspire to create a unique academic and professional environment that combines creativity and media insight with management skills, thereby contributing to the growth of India’s creative economy and expanding opportunities for students, professionals, and researchers.

Speaking on the initiative, IIM Calcutta director remarked, “This MoU seeks to enhance collaboration, encourage joint research, and offer students increased training and opportunities relevant to the industry. This will promote educational interactions between the two institutions, and I am sure that the goal of this MoU will be achieved.”
