IIM Mumbai retains 60% CAT weightage for MBA admissions 2026; cut-off may rise with applicant count

IIM Mumbai MBA Admission Policy 2026: Only candidates who have obtained the minimum CAT cut-off percentile will be called for interview, which will carry 20% weightage.
The Indian Institute of Management (Mumbai) has announced the MBA admission policy for the 2026-28 batch, retaining the same shortlisting and final selection process as last year. Admission to IIM Mumbai will be determined by a wide range of factors, including a candidate’s performance in the Common Admission Test (CAT 2025), previous academic performance, work experience, and scores obtained in personal interview (PI).
Only those candidates with CAT scores ranging between 70 and 85 percentile will be considered for admission. However, the IIM Mumbai CAT cut-off for reserved categories such as ST and PwD will go as low as 55.
IIM Mumbai MBA Admission 2026: Eligibility
MBA at IIM Mumbai is a two-year full-time residential programme for graduates.
Candidates applying for the MBA programme should hold a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. For applicants belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories, the minimum marks have been relaxed to 45%, the institute said.
Final-year undergraduate students are also eligible to apply for the programme. However, such candidates are provisionally selected and should complete all degree requirements by June 30, 2026. They are required to submit their final-year mark sheet and degree certificate by December 31, 2026, failing which the admission will be cancelled, the institute clarified.
IIM Mumbai: Stage 1 shortlisting process
As per the stage 1 shortlisting process, candidates should have qualified the CAT 2025 exam and should meet both sectional and overall CAT cut-off percentile to be considered for the next stage of selection. Only those candidates who have obtained the minimum CAT percentile will be called for a personal interview (PI).
The IIM Mumbai CAT 2025 sectional cut-off percentile for all categories remains the same as last year.

“Please note that the actual section-wise and overall percentile cut-offs may be much higher than the minimum percentiles mentioned as it will depend upon the number of candidates to be called for personal interview (PI) in each category,” IIM Mumbai said.
In stage 2, shortlisted candidates will be called for personal interview based on their CAT 2025 score along with sectional cut-offs considering their reservation category.
IIM Mumbai MBA final selection criteria 2026
The final selection for MBA admission at IIM Mumbai will be based on the composite score in CAT, interview, and academic performance and work experience score (APWE score).
The APWE score, which will carry 20% weightage, will be based on the aggregate marks obtained in Class 10, Class 12 depending upon the stream, science, commerce, arts or humanities, bachelor’s degree, and work experience as on December 31, 2025.
Candidates who hold dual bachelor’s degrees will be classified in one of the subject categories they specialised in, and are therefore required to submit the details of both degrees.
