The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and Vietnam National University (VNU) have signed an agreement to strengthen academic and research collaboration in science and engineering. The partnership will cover joint research, academic exchange, and capacity building in emerging technologies and applied sciences.

According to the official press release, the agreement identifies several areas of cooperation. These include Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in medical diagnosis and hospital systems in Vietnam, AI-based tools for education and language learning, and infrastructure defect detection.

Collaboration will also cover smart city development, material prediction, carbon-carbon material research, and drone technologies for rescue operations and agriculture.

As per the institute, a delegation from VNU, including its senior faculty and administrators, visited IIT Kanpur to explore avenues for partnership. This follows a visit by IIT Kanpur faculty to VNU in June 2025, where initial discussions were held.

Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, VNU, Nguyen Dinh Duc, said, "Our visit to IIT Kanpur has been extremely fruitful, and we have visited some of the excellent research facilities here. IIT Kanpur has expertise in many of the critical areas of research that are important to our institution as well. I look forward to strong collaborations between IITK and VNU, both on academic and research fronts."

While speaking about the agreement, Manindra Agrawal, director of IIT Kanpur, said, “I hope this collaboration with VNU will lead to enhanced capacity building and tackling the pressing problems of both India and Vietnam through collaborative research.”
