IIT Madras, IIT Palakkad collaborate for credit transfer opportunities, research internships, and summer immersion programmes.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and the Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad (IIT Palakkad) have partnered to expand academic opportunities for students by sharing resources, research internships, summer immersion programmes and offering credit transfer opportunities. Eligible students enrolled in the IIT Madras BS programme in data science and applications can now complete their credit requirements by taking courses at IIT Palakkad.
According to the IIT Madras press release, the collaboration agreement aims to leverage the strengths of both institutions to enrich the educational experience of students in the Bachelor of Science (BS) programmes at IIT Madras and in the undergraduate programs at IIT Palakkad.
IIT Madras launched its four-year BS programme in data science and applications in June 2020. The program offers structured training through online courses combined with in-person assessments. As per IIT Madras, currently, more than 30,000 students are enrolled.
An agreement formalizing this collaboration was signed on November 14, in the presence of IIT Madras director, V Kamakoti, and IIT Palakkad director, A Seshadri Sekhar, along with faculty members from both institutions.

V Kamakoti, director, IIT Madras, said, “IIT Madras is committed to reach quality education to every deserving student in our country. This initiative with IIT Palakkad is a very significant step towards reaching the goals.”
The features IIT Madras-IIT Palakkad collaboration include:
Credit transfer from IIT Palakkad courses: Eligible students in the IIT Madras BS programme (Data science and applications) can complete credit requirements by enrolling in IIT Palakkad courses, enabling resource and knowledge exchange between the institutions.
Access to IIT Madras courses for IIT Palakkad students: The agreement permits undergraduate students at IIT Palakkad to enrol in data science and programming courses from the IIT Madras BS programme
Support for additional initiatives: This partnership also encourages student exchange programmes, internships, and other collaborative initiatives.
