IIT Madras launches MTech in robotics, semi-conductors, MA in public policy with admission via GATE

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched four new postgraduate programmes, including a Master of Arts (MA) in public policy and three Master of Technology (MTech) courses in emerging technology fields such as semiconductor materials, robotics, and computational engineering for mechanical systems (CEMS).
The new programmes aim to prepare students for careers in rapidly growing sectors related to technology, manufacturing, and management. The programmes will be offered by various departments at IIT Madras and will focus on interdisciplinary learning.
The courses introduced by IIT Madras are the 2-year MA in public policy, MTech in semiconductor materials technology, MTech in mechanical engineering (computational engineering for mechanical systems), and MTech in robotics.

IIT Madras MA, MTech admission via GATE
As per the schedule, the registration for IIT Madras’ MA and MTech programmes will start on March 28 and close on April 27. Selected candidates must report to the institute on July 20, and classes will begin on July 27.
Candidates with a valid GATE score (GATE 2024, 2025, or 2026) are eligible to apply for the MA and MTech programmes. To apply, SC, ST, PwD, and female candidates will have to pay an application fee of Rs 300, while all other candidates are required to pay Rs 600.
According to IIT Madras Director Kamakoti, the programmes are designed to match industry needs and develop skilled professionals for the country. “These courses integrate fundamental engineering with modern tools and technologies,” he said.
IIT Madras added that these programmes are designed to improve learning across different subjects and equip students to meet India’s future technology and policy challenges.

IIT Madras MA, MTech programmes
The MA in public policy trains students in governance, policy analysis, and critical thinking, preparing them for careers in the government sector, research institutions, and the private sector.
The MTech programme in semiconductor materials technology focuses on building expertise for India's growing semiconductor sector. Meanwhile, the CEMS programme in mechanical engineering will train students in simulation, artificial intelligence (AI) , and high-performance computing.
The MTech programme in robotics helps students build their careers in robotics and allied industries by providing hands-on training in advanced robotic systems and automation technologies.
