IIT Madras launches online MTech in AI, opens admission to all 11 'web-enabled' PG courses

NEW DELHI : The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched a new online MTech in artificial intelligence (AI) programme for working professionals. Applications are open for 11 disciplines in MTech including the newly launched AI specialisation.
The last to apply for the AI programme is May 31. The online classes will begin in August-September 2025. Students can apply for the online programme through the official website, code.iitm.ac.in
"This program is designed for working professionals who seek to upskill in AI while continuing their employment," the IIT Madras statement said.
Earlier, IIT Madras only offered an online MTech course in Industrial AI catering to specific industry applications. However, after recognising the need for a more comprehensive AI curriculum the institute has launched this expanded course covering all fundamentals of AI in various sectors. The programme is designed to offer hands-on experience through labs and projects.

IIT Madras: MTech in AI online course
Candidates having a minimum of two years of work experience with relevant educational background as per specialization are eligible to apply. The selection process will include an entrance test covering domain-specific topics or interviews. Other benefits of the programme include opportunities to learn and upskill without having to quit their job with flexibility to pace the degree as per their work commitments.

- Computer Science & Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- E-Mobility
Speaking about the course, B Ravindran the head of Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, IIT Madras said, “The Web M.Tech program allows professionals to earn a Master’s degree from IIT Madras with the flexibility of attending live virtual evening/weekend classes and accessing recorded sessions, ensuring learning is seamlessly integrated into their work schedules.”
