IIT Roorkee’s iRISE programme aims to foster innovation and excellence in STEM education across Uttarakhand.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee held a 10-day teachers’ development workshop under the Inspiring India in Research Innovation and STEM Education (iRISE) programme. The event was organised in collaboration with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Uttarakhand, and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune from August 21 till August 30.
The programme aims to empower teachers from Classes 6 to 10 across Uttarakhand, equipping them to become “innovation champions” in their districts. The 10-day workshop introduced teachers to key concepts such as STEM education, process innovation, and cascade training modules while fostering a hands-on approach to inquiry and activity-based learning.
The Continuing Education Centre (CEC) of IIT Roorkee, which focuses on advancing knowledge and professional development, ensured the success of the event by joining hands with iRISE and IISER Pune, according to the official notification.

The dean of academic affairs of IIT Roorkee, Naveen Kumar stated: “At IIT Roorkee, we are dedicated to driving educational innovation and excellence. This workshop is a testament to our commitment to empowering educators with the tools and knowledge they need to inspire the next generation of innovators.”
The principal investigator of iRISE, IISER Pune, Harinath Chakrapani, said: “The collaboration with IIT Roorkee has been instrumental in bringing this workshop to fruition,” adds the official statement.
Kamal Kishore Pant, director of IIT Roorkee, said: “IIT Roorkee is committed to being a beacon of excellence in education and research. By hosting this workshop, we are not only supporting the professional development of teachers but also reinforcing our mission to promote STEM education across India,” adds the official statement.
The events were marked by the significant impact of IIT Roorke’s ongoing efforts to foster education in India. With IIT Roorkee’s continued collaboration with SCERT Uttarakhand and IISER Pune, it remains at the forefront of initiatives that shape the future of STEM education in the region.
The workshop was attended by other guests and faculty, including professor Kaushik Ghosh, coordinator of the CEC, IIT Roorkee; professor Ranjana Pathania, department of biosciences and bioengineering, IIT Roorkee; Krishnanand Bijalwan, assistant director, SCERT Uttarakhand; Avnish Uniyal, state coordinator, INSPIRE MANAK; Nitin Tiwane, project manager, iRISE, and the iRISE team.
