Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has launched the Advanced Certificate in Quantum Computing: Algorithms and AI/ML. The 6.5-month online programme trains professionals in quantum computing, quantum communication, and AI/ML using Qiskit, PennyLane, and IBM Quantum Systems.

As per the institute, the programme, offered through the Continuing Education Centre (CEC), IIT Roorkee, in collaboration with TimesPro, covers quantum internet protocols, secure communication, and quantum machine learning.

Participants will work on coding and simulating quantum algorithms, apply QML to practical use cases, and deploy projects across sectors, including finance, healthcare, optimisation, and drug discovery.

Course structure and modules

The curriculum spans five modules: Introduction to Quantum Computing and Applications; Quantum Algorithms and Software; Quantum Communications and Networks; Quantum Machine Learning; and Quantum Machine Learning Applications.

The institute states that the course offers over 300 learning hours through synchronous and asynchronous sessions, assignments, case studies, and a 30-hour Capstone Project. Successful participants will receive a certificate from CEC, IIT Roorkee. Applications close on November 23, 2025.

Focus on quantum communication and cryptography

The official press release states that the participants will gain knowledge of quantum communication protocols such as Quantum Key Distribution, teleportation, and quantum cryptography, and hands-on experience with Shor’s, Grover’s, and Simon’s algorithms. Advanced QML models including QSVMs, QNNs, and Quantum GANs, will also be covered.

Speaking at the announcement, Kaushik Ghosh, Coordinator, CEC, IIT Roorkee, said, “At IIT Roorkee, we designed this programme to bridge theory and deployment. Participants will learn to code, simulate, benchmark quantum algorithms and exploit AI/ML methods where quantum advantage is emerging.”

“By combining Qiskit, PennyLane and real hardware access, we prepare engineers and researchers to move prototypes into production-grade pilots across security, optimisation, in finance and healthcare data-intensive applications,” the press release said.
