The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has issued a notice warning against spreading defamatory information regarding the institute. IIT Roorkee has strongly disapproved of such actions taken by individuals or groups involved in spreading misinformation to tarnish the institute’s reputation.

IIT Roorkee responded in a statement regarding a video of a student dancing at a cultural college fest, Thomso. However, the statement did not mention anything about the video, but several social media users concluded the notice was likely referring to the controversial video.

“It has come to our notice that misleading content is being circulated on social media with the intent to tarnish the reputation of the Institute. IIT Roorkee strongly disapproves of such actions,” the official IIT Roorkee statement said.

IIT Roorkee may initiate legal action against such individuals who are spreading false information, it warned in the official statement. The institute posted the notice on its official X account.

“The institute cautions that it reserves the right to initiate FIRs and pursue legal proceedings against any individual or group involved in spreading defamatory or false information. IIT Roorkee remains committed to the highest standards of professional ethics, institutional integrity, and academic excellence,” the official IIT Roorkee statement adds.
