Illinois Tech to open Mumbai campus in 2026 with STEM, business programmes in AI, computer science

The Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech), a leading US technology-focused university, will open its new campus in Mumbai’s Godrej Business District. The campus will offer undergraduate and graduate programmes in computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and business.

Illinois Tech has become the first US university to be approved by India's University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish a degree-granting campus in India.

Applications for the inaugural admission are now open on the official website iit.edu. Interested and eligible candidates can apply for Illinois Tech admission 2026 by June 15.

To apply for Illinois Tech UG and PG programmes, candidates will be required to pay an application fee of Rs 5,000.

For undergraduate programmes, candidates will be selected based on their performance in high school, essays, choice of major, and optional American College Testing (ACT) or Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) scores.

Illinois Tech Admission 2026: Eligibility

Candidates who have completed a bachelor’s degree with an overall GPA of 3.0 or 4.0 are eligible to apply for the Illinois Tech PG admission 2026.

Candidates without a bachelor’s degree in computer science are required to complete UG courses with a grade B or higher in accelerated computer science (CS 401) or object-oriented programming I (CS 115) and II (CS 116).

Candidates who have completed a three-year Indian bachelor’s degree from NAAC-A institutions are also eligible to apply.

“The Mumbai campus reinforces the university's decades-long engagement with India, providing high-quality STEM and business education to a new generation of globally-minded students,” Illinois Tech President Raj Echambadi said.

This initiative will create transformative opportunities for students in India,” said Jamshyd N Godrej, chairman and managing director of Godrej & Boyce and a graduate of Illinois Tech.
