NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has started the application process for Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced 2024) at the official website, jeeadv.ac.in. The total number of candidates may be slightly greater than 2,50,000 in case of two or more candidates with same JEE Main score or rank in any category. The JEE Advanced registration last date is May 7.

Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, PwD, and female applicants will have to pay a JEE Advanced application fee of Rs 1,600 and all other category candidates will have to pay Rs 3,200. The payment window will be closed on May 10 at 5 pm.

IIT Madras has advised candidates to mandatorily opt for eight preferred exam centres while filling the application form. The admit cards for candidates who successfully completed the application will be issued on May 17 and will be available till the JEE Advanced exam date.

JEE Advanced exam 2024 will be held on May 26 and will consist of two papers. Both the papers will be held for three hours each and will have three sections - physics, chemistry and mathematics.

JEE Advanced 2024: Eligibility criteria

Before filling the application form, candidates should ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility criteria.

Criterion 1 - JEE Main 2024 rank

Candidates must have appeared in the JEE Main BE, BTech paper 1 and should be in the top 2,50,000 rank to be eligible. As per the reservation policy, 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is open for all. Within each of these five categories, 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates, the information brochure read.

Criterion 2 - Age limit

Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1999. Five years age relaxation will be given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, ie. reserved category candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1994.

Criterion 3 - Number of attempts

A candidate will be eligible to attempt the JEE Advanced entrance exam for a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. Which means, students who are appearing for the first time this year will be eligible to appear next year as well.

Criterion 4 - Class 12 board exam

Candidates who appeared in either 2023 or 2024 Class 12 board exam with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as compulsory subjects will be eligible to appear in the exam. However, those who took the Class 12 exam in 2022 or earlier will not be considered eligible this year on.

Criterion 5 - Earlier admission at IITs

Candidates who have been admitted to an IIT through JoSAA counselling 2023 irrespective of whether they continued in the program will not be considered. Students whose admission to IITs was cancelled earlier will also not be eligible. However, if a student withdrew from JoSAA last round of counselling or who did not report online or at the reporting centre last year will be eligible to apply.

JEE Advanced documents required

The following documents will have to be uploaded in the JEE Advanced form 2024.

  • Class 10 certificate or birth certificate
  • Class 12 mark sheet
  • Category certificate
  • PwD certificate if applicable.
  • Scribe request letter if applicable
  • Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) or Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) card secured on or after March 4, 2021.
