JEE Main 2025 response sheet errors: Delhi HC allows student to apply for JEE Adv, seeks NTA explanation

NEW DELHI: Raising concerns over the possible errors in JEE Main result 2025, the Delhi High Court has intervened in a new case filed by an aspirant who claimed that the National Testing Agency (NTA) has wrongly filed the number of attempts in JEE Main response sheet 2025. The court has provided an interim relief to the petitioner, allowing him to apply for JEE Advanced 2025.

Justice Vikas Mahajan heard the case filed by candidate Shashank Shekhar Pandey who sought directions to the NTA to rectify the discrepancies in the JEE Mains 2025 recorded responses.

The petitioner, who appeared for the NTA JEE Main session 2 exams on April 4, claimed although he had attempted 46 questions, the response sheet published by NTA on April 11 showed only 29 as attempted. According to the petitioner, when he submitted his answer sheet, “a pop-up message was shown depicting the attempted questions as 46 and unattempted questions as 29”.

JEE Mains 2025 Result 'Errors'

The NTA provides an opportunity to challenge the JEE Main answer key and question paper and not the recorded response. The JEE Main provisional answer key challenge window was made available till April 13. The petitioner’s counsel, Shivam Pandey, expressed concerns about the errors in the JEE answer sheet and argued that the discrepancies are “potentially jeopardizing his eligibility” for JEE Advanced, gateway for IIT admissions. Notably, the JEE Advanced registration 2025 was closed on May 2.

Taking note of the urgency and referring to a similar order passed by the court in August 2022, Justice Vikas Mahajan has provided an interim relief to the candidates by allowing him to register for the JEE Advanced exam and directed the authorities to process the application. However, the court instructed the NTA to send the petitioner’s JEE Main result 2025 in a sealed cover.

The court has also issued a notice to the NTA, Union government and IIT Kanpur, the conducting authority of JEE Advanced 2025. Next hearing on JEE Main response sheet error on May 19.
