The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main 2026) on January 22, Day 2, in two shifts, with the second shift scheduled from 3 pm to 6 pm. According to JEE Main 2026 January 21 shift 2 students’ feedback, opinions on the paper difficulty varied. Sahib, attempting the exam for the first time, described the physics section as “moderate” and found mathematics easy, noting that the physics questions were similar in difficulty to last year’s paper.

As per the students' reaction, the chemistry section was the toughest, followed by the maths, and physics was the easiest in the JEE Main 2026 Jan 21 shift 1 paper. The overall difficulty level of the JEE Main 2026 shift 1 exam was "moderate."

The NTA has implemented stricter exam-day guidelines, including biometric and photo identity verification norms, to curb irregularities and use of unfair means. Candidates must carry the JEE Mains admit card, two passport-size photographs, same as the one uploaded in application form, and valid photo ID for verification at the exam centre.

The computer-based examination will be held in two sessions, with the morning session scheduled from 9 am to 12 pm and the afternoon session from 3 pm to 6 pm. Candidates who opted out of Aadhaar verification have been directed to reach the exam centre an hour before the gate closing time for verification. As per the JEE Mains dress code 2026, Sikh candidates have been allowed to wear their religious articles i.e. "KARA" and "KIRPAN".

JEE Mains 2026 exam dates

Candidates who have not yet obtained their JEE Mains 2026 admit cards can download the exam hall tickets through the official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in using login credentials.

The testing agency will issue the JEE Mains 2026 admit card for January 28 and 29 exams soon on its official platform. The JEE Mains 2026 session 1 exams will be held on January 21, 22, 23, and 24 in two shifts.

The results for the college entrance test - JEE Mains 2026 session 1 will be declared on February 12. The JEE Mains 2026 session 1 is scheduled to be conducted from April 1 to 10 and the results will be announced on April 20.

Candidates who qualify the JEE Mains 2026 will be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced - a college entrance test for admission to IITs.

Candidates can follow the steps given below to download their JEE Mains 2026 admit card for tomorrow’s exam.

  • Go to the official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
  • Look for the link ‘Admit card for JEE Main session 1’ and click on it. (on the homepage)
  • A new page will open.
  • Enter application number and password.
  • Press the login button and download the admit card.
  • It is advisable to laminate the admit card.

JEE Main 2026: 'When will NTA release answer key?' candidates ask

Several coaching institutes have uploaded the unofficial JEE Mains 2026 Jan 21 answer key for both shifts. The unofficial answer key will include correct responses to the questions asked in the exam. Candidates will be able to calculate their probable marks using their unofficial keys.

However, the testing agency will issue the NTA JEE Main 2026 answer key for all shifts once the exams are over. Candidates will be able to access their provisional answer key and raise objections before the last date, based on which final answer key will be prepared.

JEE Mains 2026 cut-offs for NIT Tiruchirappalli

Among the most competitive NITs, NIT Tiruchirappalli, NIT Warangal, NIT Karnataka (Surathkal), and NIT Rourkela had the lowest closing ranks, all staying below 6,000 for the open category.

JEE Main 2026 Marking Scheme for BE/BTech and BArch/BPlan

The marking scheme for JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 and Paper 2 remains the same. Paper 1 (BE/BTech) carries a total of 300 marks, while Paper 2 (BArch/BPlan) is conducted for 400 marks. For objective-type questions, candidates are awarded  +4 marks for every correct answer, and 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect response.

JEE Main Exam Date 2026: Entry and gate closing time at exam centres

For the first shift of the JEE Main 2026 exam, entry at the exam centre will be permitted from 7:30 am to 8:30 am. For the second shift, candidates will be allowed to enter between 2 pm and 2:30 pm. JEE Main Exam 2026: IIT Delhi branch-wise cut-offs

At IIT Delhi, Computer Science and Engineering recorded the highest closing rank at 126 under the open category in JEE Advanced 2026, while the BTech Design programme had the lowest cut-off at 12217. Electrical Engineering closed at rank 605, showing a marginal change from last year. Data from IIT Kanpur’s Joint Implementation Committee report shows CSE remained the most preferred programme, followed by Electrical Engineering. JoSAA data also indicates that IIT Delhi offered 79 seats in the four-year BTech CSE programme, including supernumerary seats for female candidates.

JEE Main 2026: Special instructions for non-Aadhaar, PwD candidates

As per the NTA notice, candidates whose live photograph does not match Aadhaar records or those who registered using other identity proofs must carry the prescribed certificate in original, duly signed by a competent authority, as per the format shared by NTA. PwD and PwBD candidates claiming relaxation should carry a valid disability certificate or UDID card issued by the competent authority. Candidates requiring a scribe should have opted for the facility in the application form and will be provided compensatory time as per NTA norms.
