The National Testing Agency (NTA) is likely to release the JEE Main 2026 registration dates soon on its official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. The announcement will be accompanied by a detailed information bulletin outlining the exam pattern, syllabus, eligibility criteria, and other essential details.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is increasing the number of exam cities for JEE Main 2026 to make the exam more accessible for candidates across the country. Last year, JEE Main 2025 was conducted in 284 exam centres in India and 15 centres internationally, covering a total of 300 cities in India and 26 cities abroad. The expansion for 2026 aims to further reduce travel-related challenges, especially for candidates from remote regions. Special attention is also being given to the requirements of PwD/PwBD candidates to ensure the examination process is inclusive and manageable.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will continue the same Aadhaar authentication process used last year to address candidate issues during JEE Main registration. The agency said the step aims to simplify the application process for those facing name mismatches between Aadhaar and Class 10 certificates.

Engineering aspirants aiming for admission to top IITs will have to qualify JEE Main to appear for JEE Advanced. Based on previous year data, candidates scoring around 250 marks out of 360 in JEE Advanced secured ranks between 1 and 500. The exam, expected to be conducted by IIT Roorkee in 2026, will offer admission to over 18,000 seats across 23 IITs.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has launched a 6.5 month online programme in Advanced Certificate in Quantum Computing : Algorithms and AI/ML.

The NTA has revised the eligibility rule related to the 75% marks requirement in Class 12. Candidates who rank in the top 20 percentile of their respective state boards will now be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, even if they do not score 75% marks. This criterion, however, does not apply to JEE Main.

Candidates should have all necessary documents ready to ensure a smooth JEE Main 2026 registration process. The following documents and details will be required:

• A valid email ID and mobile number to receive NTA notifications.
• Class 10 certificate (Class 12 certificate is not required).
• Aadhaar card details.
• Scanned photograph and signature.
• Details of OBC-NCL/EWS certificate (upload not required).

After the candidates faced problems of name mismatch during registration, NTA has issued an advisory. It has asked aspirants to follow certain steps for Aadhaar authentication before filling the JEE Main application form 2025.

After multiple media reports claimed that candidates will not be given the option to select the exam city for JEE, NEET, and CUET 2026 entrance tests,
the National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that its latest advisory regarding updating Aadhaar and UDID cards is not related to city allotment for JEE Mains 2026 “in any manner”.

Candidates should have all necessary documents ready to ensure a smooth JEE Main 2026 registration process . The following documents and details will be required:

• A valid email ID and mobile number to receive NTA notifications.
• Class 10 certificate (Class 12 certificate is not required).
• Aadhaar card details.
• Scanned photograph and signature.
• Details of OBC-NCL/EWS certificate (upload not required).

The centre has planned to review the difficulty level of JEE and NEET 2026 to ensure alignment with Class 12 curriculum. The Ministry of Education has constituted a nine-member panel to analyse issues such as reliance on coaching, effectiveness of entrance exams,  and the emergence of 'dummy schools.'

The NTA informed the the JEE Mains 2026 aspirants on updating Aadhaar and UDID cards that its not related to JEE Main 2026 exam city allocation . The notice was issued to help candidates avoid issues due to mismatched personal details while filling the application form.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 will be conducted in two sessions. Session 1 is scheduled from January 21 to January 30, 2026, and Session 2 will be held from April 1 to April 10, 2026. Candidates can apply for each session separately, and the best score among the two sessions will be considered for merit and admission purposes.

NTA is yet to release the JEE Mains 2026 registration link for session 1 exams. Once released, candidates will be able to apply for JEE Mains 2026 on the offiical website,  jeemain.nta.nic.in.

NTA revised the tie-breaking criteria to determine ranks of candidates with similar raw scores last year. While NTA has not published the JEE Main 2026 information bulletin, candidates can check last year's below. The tie will be resolved in the following order:

• Higher NTA score in Mathematics
• Higher NTA score in Physics
• Higher NTA score in Chemistry
• Candidate with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers across all subjects
• Candidate with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers in Mathematics
• Candidate with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers in Physics
• Candidate with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers in Chemistry

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chennai has launched a dual degree programme in cyber security in collaboration with Australia’s Deakin University. NIT Hamirpur saw the highest salary package of Rs 3.40 crore during the current placements. Dual-degree student in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication grabbed the offer. Among females, two ECE students received packages of Rs 1.68 crore each. 15 students secured offers above Rs 40 lakh and 50 students above Rs 30 lakh.

Several engineering colleges announced BTech courses in artificial intelligence, as soon as it gained momentum. While those on the curriculum panel say that the whole course curriculum of such courses cannot be industry-based but aims to make students job-ready, the college professors think that they do not guarantee an entry-level job. However, recruiters and hiring experts believe that students with skills in demand land a job expeditely.

After the problem of mismatch between candidates' details in Class 10 certificate or marksheet and Aadhaar Card while filling the JEE Main application form arose last year, NTA provided an option to skip the step. The same option will be provided this year in JEE Mains 2026 registration, it said.

Since the introduction of BTech programmes in regional languages in 2021, overall enrolment has increased. However, the growth has been largely concentrated in a single language-programme combination — BTech in Computer Science offered in Hindi. Moreover, many of these seats have been filled by candidates from English-medium backgrounds who secured lower ranks in JEE mains.

IIT Roorkee, in collaboration with TimesPro through its Continuing Education Centre (CEC), has introduced a 6.5-month online Advanced Certificate Programme in Quantum Computing: Algorithms and AI/ML. The programme offers over 300 hours of learning, including five comprehensive modules and a 30-hour Capstone Project. Participants will receive hands-on training in quantum computing, quantum communication, and AI/ML using tools like Qiskit, PennyLane, and IBM Quantum Systems. Applications are open until November 23.

This year recorded the lowest number of JEE Advanced 2025 qualifiers in the past six years. Out of the top 2.5 lakh candidates eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, only 54,378 qualified. Among them, just 33% managed to secure a seat in an IIT, meaning that 18,188 IIT seats were allotted through JoSAA counselling.

The JEE Main is a national-level, computer-based engineering entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is held for admission to undergraduate programmes, including Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Bachelor of Planning (BPlanning), and Bachelor of Architecture (BArch), at premier institutions such as National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and other state-participating universities across India.
