JIPMER refutes claims about integrated MBBS-BAMS degree programme

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has denied the media reports regarding the introduction of an integrated MBBS and BAMS programme at the institute.

According to the official PIB notice, JIPMER has clarified that there’s no proposal to launch any integrated programme at the institute as of now. JIPMAER has urged the media and the general public to rely only on the official notifications for accurate information.

As per the Medical Dialogues report, the introduction of MBBS and BAMS was first made by the union minister of state for health and family welfare and AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, on May 27. The proposal came from the Auroville Foundation in 2024.

Consequently, JIPMER prepared a draft curriculum for the integrated MBBS-BAMS programme to grant dual degrees in collaboration with the Ayurvedic Foundation.

No plans to launch integrated course: JIPMER

Moreover, the statutory bodies like the National Medical Commission (NMC), Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH), and Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) have been asked to introduce such integrated modules.

While responding to an RTI query raised by KV Babu, NMC on June 26, 2025, informed that, "The third joint meeting of NMC, National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) was earlier proposed to be held on September 23, 2024. However, due to non-availability communicated by NCISM, the same could be conducted, and the matter regarding convening the meeting in 2025 has not yet been decided."

"The institute hereby categorically clarified that there is no move to introduce any such programme at JIPMER as of now. The Institute urges the media and general public to rely solely on official communication for accurate and authentic information from JIPMER," the official PIB statement said.
