JMI launches BA (Hons.) in German and Japanese studies; applications open till September 6

The programmes combine language learning with cultural studies, translation, and industry-focused skills. The advanced diploma in child guidance and counselling prepares students for RCI-approved roles in education, healthcare, government, and NGOs.

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has launched two self-financed undergraduate programmes along with an advanced diploma in child guidance and counselling for the 2025–26 session. The university has launched BA (Hons.) in German Studies and BA (Hons.) in Japanese Studies under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP).

As per the institute, the Bachelor of Arts (BA) (Honours) programs in German and Japanese Studies are designed to go beyond traditional language teaching. The courses combine language proficiency with cultural studies, translation and interpretation, and industry-oriented applications.

“These courses integrate language proficiency with cultural studies, translation and interpretation, and industry-oriented applications with the aim to equip students with the skills and global outlook necessary to thrive in today’s interconnected world,” the official press release said.

The Advanced Diploma in Child Guidance and Counselling is accredited by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). As per the institute, the Diploma holders can work as RCI-approved counsellors in educational institutions, healthcare facilities, hospitals, clinics, government organisations, and national or international NGOs.

Application and admission dates

Eligible candidates seeking admission to these programs can submit their applications online till September 6, 2025, through the JMI admissions portal. The institute will conduct admission tests for the courses on September 14, 2025.

JMI vice chancellor Mazhar Asif and Registrar Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi stated that the new programmes are intended to expand the university’s academic offerings in foreign languages and to address the field of child guidance and counselling.

“By introducing these futuristic and popular courses, JMI has once again demonstrated its commitment to offering globally relevant and industry-oriented programmes. The university firmly believes these initiatives will not only broaden its academic offerings but also strengthen India’s cultural and professional bridges with Europe and Japan,” it said.
