JPSC postpones July 25 state civil services mains exam over alleged irregularities; five held

The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has postponed its state civil services mains exams, scheduled to be held from July 25 to 27 due to alleged irregularities in the competitive examination held by the JPSC, TOI reported.

Meanwhile, the Ranchi Police have arrested five people, including a senior official of the JPSC, for their alleged involvement with the irregularities in various competitive exams, PTI reported.

Recently, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) also postponed its integrated 72nd Combined (preliminary) Competitive Examination (CCE) 2026 due to unavoidable reasons.

Among the 5 people arrested, the Jharkhand police have also held Shweta Gupta, deputy examination controllers, following raids linked to alleged irregularities in competitive examinations conducted by the commission, as reported by TOI.

JPSC holds other combined civil service mains examination

Moreover, other competitive examinations, including the Jharkhand Combined Civil Service Main (Written) Backlog Exam 2025, and Jharkhand Combined Civil Service Main (Written) Backlog Examination 2023, were also put on hold due to unlisted reasons, the report added.

Apart from the deputy controller, Ramveer Singh, the director of TSR Data Processing Private Limited, and three others were also arrested by the CID, as per the PTI report.

“The accused have been booked under multiple sections of the BNS and the Jharkhand Competitive Examination (Measures for Prevention and Remedy of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Act, 2023,” the report added.

Notably, a rumour on the resignation of JPSC chairman L Khiangte was doing the rounds, but there is no official confirmation about it, the PTI report read.

Sonal Shanti, state Congress spokesperson said in the report: "The government of Jharkhand has fulfilled its responsibilities. As soon as irregularities came to light in JPSC, an investigation began, and the JPSC chairman resigned. The CID probe is also going on."
