KEA extends Karnataka NEET PG counselling mop-up round deadline after HC cancels seats

NEW DELHI : Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has extended the last date for fee payment and reporting to college for the mop-up round of the National Eligibility Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG) counselling 2024. Seat allotted candidates who have not yet paid the college fee can make fee payment till February 7 and report to the institute by February 8, 2025.

“Date is extended for payment of fees and to report to the colleges to the candidates who have been allotted PG Medical Seat in Mop-Up round 2024. The interested candidates who have not paid the fees till now, can pay the fees and report to the college accordingly. (The order passed by the Hon'ble High Court in WP No. 2848/2025 will imply),” said KEA in an official notice.

According to various media reports, the Karnataka High Court ordered KEA to cancel the seats allotted to ‘ineligible’ candidates in the Karnataka NEET PG counselling 2024 mop-up round, rapping it for violating its own brochure for postgraduate medical admissions.

Several aspirants filed a plea against the mop-up allotments, arguing that KEA allowed students already allotted All India Quota (AIQ) seats to take part in the mop-up round, resulting in irregularities and lack of opportunities.

MCC NEET PG counselling

A two-judge bench reportedly asked the counselling authorities not to penalise such students for exiting the seats and return their original documents, as they were wrongly allowed to participate in the state counselling. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has been asked to allow students who have been allotted AIQ seats in MCC NEET PG counselling to report by February 9, the reports added.

Further, the Karnataka HC asked KEA to permit the petitioners and other such candidates to participate in the stray vacancy round of state NEET PG counselling and let them avail seats falling vacant.
