Mahindra University: The last date to submit applications for the PhD intake is October 31, 2025. The programme offers specialisations in AI, Smart Cities, Biomarker Discovery, Quantum Technologies, and Computational Sciences.

Mahindra University, in collaboration with Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), United States, has invited applications for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme for the January 2026 intake. According to the official website of Mahindra University, the last date to submit applications for the January 2026 PhD intake is October 31, 2025.
As per the institute, the programme is designed to provide research scholars with access to laboratories, design studios, and computing facilities on campus. Mahindra University also houses the Mahindra University–Virginia Tech Interdisciplinary Advanced Research Centre for Transformative Technologies (IARCT²), which supports collaborative research across emerging and frontier technology areas.
The joint doctoral programme covers engineering and sciences with specialisations in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Smart and Connected Cities, Biomarker Discovery, Energy and Water Nexus, Materials Research, Quantum Technologies, Civil and Structural Health Monitoring, and Computational Sciences.
According to Mahindra University, admissions will be conducted as per University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines. Candidates will be assessed based on their UGC National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) score, as well as a written test conducted by Mahindra University (60 per cent weightage) and an interview (40 per cent weightage). UGC-NET qualified candidates will automatically receive weightage, but can choose to improve their score through the written test.
The shortlist of candidates for interviews will be released on November 10, followed by the PhD entrance test and interviews on November 22. The results will be announced on December 1, and the Spring 2026 semester will commence on January 15, 2026.

According to the official press release, key features of the programme include co-supervision by Virginia Tech faculty, structured coursework and thesis development, and research across Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
The university emphasises research publication in international journals and conferences and offers guidance across new areas such as Generative AI, Deep Learning, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR/XR), Urban Mobility, RNA interference (RNAi) Therapeutics, and Smart Materials.
