After prolonged silence, Tashkent State Medical University (TSMU) has announced that it will start accepting applications and conduct interviews for admission to medical and dental courses from August 25. The announcement comes a day after Careers360 reported that over 1,000 Indian students, who have already paid for seats, are facing uncertainty over their MBBS admission.

The university informed that three separate medical institutes – Tashkent Medical Academy, Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, and Tashkent State Dental Institute – have been merged into one.

Last year, TSMU faced criticism for its poor academic standards, limited English proficiency among faculty, and for denying admission to students who had already paid fees. As a result, it had earlier said that the application process for international students would not be held in June-July to make “organisational changes”.

In the latest notification, the university said that the merger was carried out to reorganise resources for international students. It claimed that a sufficient number of teachers have been hired, and dormitory places and other facilities have been reorganised for international students.

Why did NMC blacklist TSMU's Chirchik branch?

According to data shared by the Embassy of India, Tashkent, last year, the institute enrolled over 6,000 Indian students – indicating a growing trend. However, after several students who paid for seats were denied entry last year, the Embassy and National Medical Commission (NMC) issued several advisories for students opting to study MBBS abroad.

The NMC had also blacklisted one of TSMU’s branches in Chirchik for violating Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) regulations. The decision was taken after reviewing reports from the Indian Embassy in Mexico and the Eurasia division of the ministry of external affairs, which stated several issues, including instances of harassment of Indian students.

TSMU MBBS Admission 2025

The MBBS course is offered as a six-year programme at Tashkent State Medical University. According to the new admission criteria, international students will be admitted on the basis of an interview.

The application process and submission of documents will be carried out from August 25. The TSMU admission interview will be held online with the participation of university professors and a representative of the Dean’s Office of the International Faculty.

An admission letter will be issued only upon successful completion of the interview. Students will be offered admission only if they have a valid student visa, the telex for which is processed solely by the university, it said.

Those who arrive in Uzbekistan on a tourist visa or visas issued by third-party organisations will not be considered valid entrants. Such students will lose admission even if they clear the interview.

“The University Admission Committee bears no responsibility for interviews or admission letters that were not officially organised by the Dean’s Office of the International Faculty,” it said.

TSMU warned of false and fake information and advised applicants to follow the official website for the latest updates.
