Mining ministry invites application for National Geoscience Awards 2023 at awards.gov.in

Eligible candidates can apply for National Geoscience Award, young geoscientist and lifetime achievement awards till November 30.
NEW DELHI: The ministry of mines has invited nominations for the National Geoscience Awards 2023 for contributions in the field of mineral discovery and exploration, fundamental/applied geosciences, mining, and allied areas.
The ministry said the award will be in three categories – National Geoscience Award for Lifetime Achievement, National Geoscience Award and National Young Geoscientist Award.The nominations are being received online at national awards portal, awards.gov.in.
The annual awards were instituted in 1966 to encourage geoscientists to strive toward excellence. Any citizen of India with a significant contribution in any of the fields of geoscience, mining and related industry shall be eligible for these awards.
The last date of receipt of nominations is November 30. Nominations other than online mode through the national awards portal shall not be accepted, the ministry said.
Lifetime achievement award
The National Geoscience Award for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded to a scientist with an exceptionally high lifetime achievement for sustained and significant contributions in the field of geoscience, mining and related industry. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5,00,000 and a certificate.
National Geoscience Award
This will be bestowed upon 10 scientists (or team) in recognition of meritorious contribution in any of the disciplines geoscience, mining and related industry. Each award carries a cash prize of Rs 3,00,000, along with a certificate. In the case of a team award, the award money will be equally divided. A nomination for a team award can comprise a maximum of four members and the number of team awards shall not exceed five.

National Young Geoscientist Award
The Young Geoscientist award will be awarded for outstanding research work in any field of geosciences to an individual below 35 years of age as on December 31, 2022. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 plus a research grant of Rs 5,00,000 spread over five years’ subject to satisfactory yearly progress and a certificate.
