NEET PG 2024 Counselling Live: MCC schedule awaited at mcc.nic.in; MD, MS seats in India

The NEET PG 2024 counselling registration link has been activated at mcc.nic.in.

On August 9, 2024, the Supreme Court rejected the plea to reschedule the NEET PG exam, stating that a last-minute postponement would impact 2 lakh candidates and 4 lakh parents.

Tagging Union health minister JP Nadda in a post on X, a NEET PG 2024 aspirant said, "Sir the NEET PG case filed by 19 students has put all qualified aspirants in great distress as counselling is being deferred endlessly, case is being postponed every week. Please ensure counselling starts soon. Pattern of exam and percentile usage was declared before exams itself."

The complete MCC NEET PG 2024 counseling schedule for all three rounds, including the stray vacancy round, is yet to be announced.

The full form of NEET PG is National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post-Graduation. The NEET PG is conducted by National Board of Examinations (NBE). 

Candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats based on their NEET PG rank, conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), will be eligible for 50% of the All India Quota seats in Central Universities.

According to a written response from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in Parliament, NEET PG seats have increased from 31,185 in 2014 to 70,645 currently. Over the past five years, postgraduate seats have risen from 39,583 in the 2018-19 academic year to 64,059 in 2022-23, as mentioned by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in his reply.

NEET PG counselling is conducted to allocate postgraduate medical seats (MD, MS, and Diploma) based on candidates' NEET PG scores and preferences. It ensures a fair, merit-based, and transparent seat distribution while following reservation policies and providing candidates with the opportunity to choose their preferred colleges and courses.

The NEET PG 2024 exam duration is 3 hours and 30 minutes (210 minutes). During this time, candidates have to answer 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

NEET PG 2024 counselling is expected to be conducted in four phases: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and the AIQ Stray Vacancy Round.

The Supreme Court will hear a case related to NEET PG 2024 on October 25. This hearing aims to address concerns regarding the admission process and counselling procedures for postgraduate medical courses.

Only candidates who meet the minimum cut-off percentile will be required to register for NEET PG counselling. The examination authority will conduct two rounds of counselling for NEET PG 2024.

The NEET PG 2024 counselling registration began on September 20, 2024. Candidates who have qualified for the exam can register through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) official website, mcc.nic.in.

The National Eligibility Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 counselling schedule has not yet been issued. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is expected to announce the schedule soon on its official website, mcc.nic.in.

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) published the merit list for the NEET PG 2024 for 50% All India quota seats on September 5.

NEET PG 2024 is administered by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The examination is conducted under the supervision of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), which is part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India.

Candidates belonging to the general category are required to pay Rs 1,000 for admission to the All India Quota (AIQ) or a Central University, whereas candidates from the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories must pay Rs 500. For admission to a deemed university, candidates are required to deposit Rs 5,000.

After the MCC NEET PG 2024 seat allotment, candidates have the following options:

Option 1: Automatic seat cancellation If a candidate does not report to the allocated institute within the specified timeframe in Round 1 of NEET PG counselling 2024, their seat will be automatically canceled, known as a 'free exit.'

Option 2: Seat acceptance Candidates satisfied with their Round 1 allotment must report to the designated college within the given period to confirm their seat.

Option 3: Upgradation option Candidates who are not satisfied with their current allotment can apply for a seat upgrade in Round 2. If no upgrade is granted, their original seat remains secured.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts four rounds of NEET PG counselling including round 1, round 2, mop-up round, and stray vacancy round. The authority may announce special rounds in case of vacant seats or lowering of cut-off.
