NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has notified the salient features of the "Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023 (PGMER-2023)” for admission to the PG medical courses. Stating that PG admissions will be done only through MCC NEET PG counselling 2024, it warned medical colleges of reducing double the number of seats for one or more years if offered admission by themselves.

The NMC notified the PGMER 2023 regulations on December 29, 2023. Chapter 4 of the regulation elaborates on the admission and counselling process for PG medical courses. According to the regulation, admissions to all the PG medical programmes will be through counselling by the government agency based on the merit list of the NEET PG exam.

Background wave

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts NEET PG counselling for allotting MD, MS, Diploma and MDS seats to qualified candidates in participating government medical and dental colleges of the country under 50% All India Quota (AIQ). The state counselling committees conduct their own counselling process for the remaining 50% seats in the state government medical colleges and private medical colleges.

PG medical admission through MCC counselling

The NEET PG round 1 counselling 2024 registration is underway and the MCC is expected to activate the choice filling link today. In this regard, it has published the tentative NEET PG seat matrix on its official portal and asked the colleges to verify before 5 pm today. The last date to submit applications is November 17.

The PGMER 2023 regulation read: “All rounds of counselling for all seats will be held on online mode by state or central Government counselling authority and no medical college/ institution will admit any candidate themselves.”

“Any student admitted in contravention of these Regulations will be discharged from the course and double the number of seats shall be reduced for one or more years. All the permitted PG seats in a medical college/ institute are to be considered as recognized seats for the purpose of registration of additional qualifications,” it added.

Further, it urged all students and parents to go through the PGMER-2023 regulations and also through the number of PG seats available to each medical college on NMC's website before taking admissions to the PG courses.
