The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared 12,36,531 candidates are qualified for the MBBS and BDS admission for the academic year 2025-26. Eligibility was determined based on the merit obtained by the aspirants in the single-largest NEET UG 2025 exam, held this year for over 20 lakh students.
Continuing to be top choice of rank holders, the first 48 rank holders of NEET opted for AIIMS New Delhi. Among these, 37 seats were secured by general category candidates, 10 by OBC, and one by EWS category.
The MCC had earlier clarified that the NRI quota seats will now be filled on a priority basis. In previous years, all eligible candidates were considered in a single pool, allowing candidates with distant relations or sponsorships to compete with the NRI candidates.
However, now only the NRI candidates and children of NRIs will be given priority 1, and first and second-degree relatives of NRI will get second priority.
According to the new NRI quota policy, a total of 557 NRI candidates have been selected for medical admission in round 1 All India Quota (AIQ) counselling. Of them, 297 have been admitted under NRI priority 1 and the remaining 260 under NRI priority 2.
