The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced the total number of MBBS seats in India for round 1 NEET UG counselling 2025. This year, a total of 12.36 lakh NEET qualified candidates will compete for 1,15,900 MBBS seats in government, private, and other medical colleges. This year, a total of 20.9 lakh candidates appeared for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test - undergraduate (NEET UG 2025), conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Uttar Pradesh emerged as the top performing state by recording 3,41,491 registrations this year. Of which, 3,33,088 sat for the exam, and 1,70,684 candidates were declared qualified for MBBS admissions.
Overall, 12,36,531 candidates became eligible for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and allied courses. The total number of MBBS seats compared to the number of qualified candidates indicate that only one out of 10 candidates will secure a seat in medical course.
Last year, a total of 1,15,250 MBBS seats were filled through the NEET UG counselling.
Of the 775 medical colleges listed in the NEET UG seat matrix for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ), the institutions are categorized by management type as follows: over 400 government colleges, 32 private colleges, 13 government (society) colleges, 44 society-run colleges, and more than 250 trust-run colleges.
