A 17-year-old MBBS aspirant died by suicide in Goa on the day the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the cancellation of NEET UG 2026 following paper leak allegations. While the exact cause of this extreme step remains unknown, the Goa Police are currently investigating the incident, the Indian Express reports. NEET UG 2026 Exam Live.

The NEET UG 2026 candidate's suicide occurred between 10 am and 11 am on May 12, and the police control room informed the Goa police of the incident at 11:15 AM, according to the report.

“Goa Police said a note has been recovered from the spot. In the purported suicide note, the minor is believed to have mentioned that he was under stress over “competitive exams”. The panchanama recorded by the police states that inquiry with the family members revealed that the boy allegedly died by suicide due to “pressue of exam performance,” the report added.

The report, citing a senior police officer, states that the MBBS aspirant had bolted the door of his room from inside at night and when there was no response from him for hours, the family forced open the door and found his dead body.

More than 22 lakh candidates appeared for the NEET UG 2026, held on May 3, for admission to MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses at government and private medical colleges across the country.

MBBS candidates across the country expressed their anger and disappointment over the NEET UG 2026 paper leak, despite the NTA’s strict measures to secure the sanctity of the examination.

The NTA is expected to announce revised dates for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination shortly, affecting nearly 22.79 lakh students.

The investigation into the paper leak began just days after the exam was conducted across centres nationwide. The case has since been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has already detained four individuals accused in the leak incident.
