The Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra have resumed the NEET UG re-exam hearing . During the day-long deliberations, senior advocate Hooda said: “Both Kota and Sikar have an equal number of students appearing in the exam. If we calculate top centres in the country where students have got more that 650 marks, 38 out of 50 centres are only from Sikar.”
Sikar, with a population of approximately 31.63 lakh, is situated in Rajasthan, about 378 km from Kota and 114 km from Jaipur. It is closer to Jaipur and is considered a border area, being 600 km away from Pakistan.
In 2021, Sikar was in the news due to allegations of a NEET UG paper leak incident. While these allegations were not proven, they cast a shadow over the city's reputation. However, in the NEET UG results 2024, Sikar outshined the rest of exam centres and state.
Performance of students from Sikar
Approximately 80% of students from Sikar qualified for NEET UG 2024, significantly surpassing the national average of around 50%. Sikar centers consistently rank among the top 60 centers based on the percentage of students scoring above 650. Out of the top 60 centers, 43 are from Sikar. Among the candidates scoring above 600, out of top 60 centers, 42 are from Sikar.
Senior advocate Hooda pointed out that there are 49 centres in Sikar, of which, one if Kendriya Vidyalaya and the remaining are private schools.
While the exact reasons for Sikar's outlier status remain under investigation, the city's strong coaching infrastructure, dedicated students, and supportive environment are likely contributing factors.
