NEW DELHI: The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2024 will be announced on August 12. Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will release the category-wise rankings of Indian colleges and universities during an online event.
The institutes across the country will be ranked in 13 different categories – overall, universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors, and innovation.
The ‘innovation’ category has been newly introduced in the last year’s rankings while the ‘agriculture and allied sectors’ and ‘research institutions’ categories were added to the list in the previous years.
Every year, eligible institutions are asked to participate in the NIRF rankings by applying on the portal, and submit data within a given time period. The Ministry of Education accepted the NIRF ranking launched by the human resource development minister in September 2015. The first rankings were announced in April 2016.
NIRF Ranking 2024: Methodology, parameters
The institutions are ranked on the basis of parameters established by the core committee set up by the MHRD. The parameters have been divided into different sub-parameters and are assigned weightage. Each ranking category has its own methodology.
MoE identifies data which can be easily provided by the institutions and verified. Explaining the process of ranking, the document read, “A suitable metric is then proposed based on this data, which computes a score under each sub-head. The sub-head scores are then added to obtain scores for each individual head. The overall score is computed based on the weights allotted to each head. The overall score can take a maximum value of 100.” The scores of institutions in each parameter determine their ranks.
The NIRF ranking parameters and their weightages are as follows:
